Sand Crawlers

Sand Crawlers, also sometimes called Desert Crabs, can be seen roaming the Southern Wastes, and occasionally entering the Southern Dominance. They have the appearance of a crab, save that they have four claws, and are far greater in size.   There have been some reported cases of people being killed and eaten by Sand Crawlers, however unless desperate they would be more likely to flee from human contact than hunt them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Much like crabs, the sand crawler has 6 legs, 3 extending from each side of its body. It has two enormous, powerful foreclaws used for catching prey, and two small claws raised above them used for finer manipulation.

Genetics and Reproduction

Although little of their life-cycle has been observed, it is believed that the species reproduces asexually, leaving being what appears to be a small, husk like version of itself, which will slowly pupate into a fully grown Crawler.

Growth Rate & Stages

Findings suggests the crawler reach maturity within 2 years of their birth.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Sand Crawlers are known to be carnivorous, but live primarily on insects and beetles within the Southern Wastes. They have been known to occasionally hunt humans, if desperate.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While the Sand Crawler has two green, compound eyes, it is thought to have some limited capacity for tremorsense, and they are exceptionally difficult to sneak up on.
Lifespan
Unknown, although it is thought they could live for over 100 years.
Average Height
Sand Crawlers usually stand around 12ft off the ground, and have a leg span of at least twice that.
