Southern Wastes
The southern wastes are the general name for the enormous heat-cracked, sandblasted wastes which extend from the southern most border of Ran'Haldin. Nobody has ever reached the end of the wastes - however long they are it is well known that even in the fastest Airships you would be forced to spend some of the journey in The Darkening and the Wastes are known to be especially dangerous during this time.
As well as this, the Wastes are far too hot for almost any creature to live in for an extended period of time - and since it has almost no water or life there even creatures such as Tieflings or Dragonborn (who are naturally more resistant to heat) would die from a lack of water.
Geography
As far as can be seen, the wastes are completely flat. The ground itself is cracked massively after being repeatedly heated by the sun and then cooled during the darkening.
Fauna & Flora
The enormous Sand Crawlers make their home here, however few have ever been seen. Other than the small bugs which the crawlers are said to often feed on, little is known about what lives in the Wastes.
