Thaddeas Dell

Thaddeas Dell is one of the few denizens of this planet who I can honestly say has earned my respect. Born in Mistguard, the Dell family was then synonymous with baking, rather than the legends which surround it today. Over the course of his 60-some years, Dell has become one of the wealthiest and most deeply respected men in The Empire, and as High Inquisitor almost single-handedly created the most effective national defence force within the Empire.
My research has however turned up something of a gap in the life of this man. Records show very clearly that, at his birth, the Dells were known as bakers, and nothing more. Then, once he reached either 17 or 18, Thaddeas left Mistguard, and proceeded to drop of the face of Nalan until roughly 20 years later, when he turned up in Cretin's Gate to watch the tournament. It would only be a few years later when Thaddeas would apply for the position of High Inquistor a seat which hadn't been occupied in 15 years.
It's my profession opinion that Thaddeas Dell must have either done something to earn the respect of the brass in government, or otherwise had some kind of dirt on them. Either way, his application for the position was immediately accepted, and so began his 30 year long journey to create the Inquisitors as we know them today.
From my research, the only blemish I can find on the man is the unfortunate incident with his son, Naryk, who is said to have stolen important state secrets before fleeing to the The Shattered Shores. After this loss, I heard he began training his grandson, Reiarch Dell, to take over after his retirement.

Public records indicate Thaddeas never entered the Cretin's Tournament, despite living within spitting distance of the city his entire life. Though most see him more as an administrator, it is well known among certain crowds that in his youth, Dell could have had the title multiple years in a row. I've been able to find nothing concrete on this, but my brief interview with Mothak seemed to suggest that at least at one point, Thaddeas Dell was one of Nalan's most preeminent warriors.

A Magical Inclination?

As is the case with all individuals I have profiled for this work, I have attempted to scry on Dell on a few occasions in order to gain a better insight into the kind of man he is. I place significant emphasis on attempted here as it took me weeks to even manage to get through - I try to remain humble, but that is no mere feat. On the one occasion I was able to get through, I could swear the bastard looked right at me and raised an eyebrow.
I never attempted to scry on him again.
