Dragontale
Description
A sprawling metropolis resting in the northwest expanse of Rayas, serving as the political center of the region of Talia. Governed by the reigning monarch, King Gelraak Cazir, this city stands as a pivotal hub of power and influence.Appearance
The city of Dragontale is nestled against the northern slopes of the Redcrest Mountains, adjacent to Aunia Lake and the world-famous Boonpools. The settlement is encircled by formidable stone walls punctuated by four entry gates. Continuing from here, the outskirts of the city accommodate a significant portion of the less affluent residents. It is recommended to stay on the main thoroughfares until reaching the inner city, as the outer areas lack consistent patrols by the city guard. Upon passing through another set of gates and smaller fortifications, the inner city unfolds—a captivating, multi-tiered labyrinth of stone interwoven with verdant landscapes. At the heart of the city, a majestic castle commands attention, constructed entirely from the rich red stone quarried from the nearby mountains, standing as a central bastion amidst the urban landscape. The towering keep is known throughout the land as the Crimson Citadel.Defences
The thick stone walls that envelop the settlement are not only a physical barrier but also a canvas for intricate enchantments woven into the very fabric of the construction. Additionally, strategically placed watchtowers provide vantage points for archers and spellcasters, ensuring a vigilant eye on the surrounding landscape. The guardians of the city, known as the Crestguard, form an elite force predominantly composed of dragonborn warriors. However, this formidable group boasts a diverse blend of species and specialities, each member highly skilled in both martial and magical disciplines.Government
King Gelraak Cazir, alongside his team of advisors and trusted elites, rule over the realm of Talia from the confines of the citadel in Dragontale. He is known for his strong values placed upon honour, strength and opportunity.History
Founded in 975 AC by several groups of dragonborn coming together to form a powerful alliance, clearing the area of all sorts of monstrosities and working the mountains for their valuable resources. What started as a relatively small encampment quickly grew into a proper settlement, utilising the unusual red stone and clay to construct walls, buildings and the giant citadel still standing today. Over the millennia there have been many threats and assaults on the city, all met with swift and powerful retribution, earning the Crestguard a legendary status as warriors not to be trifled with.Trade
Dragontale has excellent trade connections, with direct connections to several other cities and regions with relatively good connections in more remote parts of the continent as well. The roads leading out of the city undergo regular maintenance, are often patrolled and feature numerous defences to ensure seamless trade operations. Numerous markets are held in the city throughout the week, attracting business from many nearby settlements.Culture
The Crestguard's influence extends beyond defence; it permeates the cultural ethos. Martial arts, both armed and magical, are highly revered. Training academies dot the city, where aspiring warriors undergo rigorous tutelage, aspiring to emulate the legendary status of the Crestguard. Draconic artistry and theming are present although mostly minimal in design, influenced by the large number of dragonborn that have lived here. Many dragon-themed decorations or objects are usually there to appeal to tourists, travellers and traders rather than the residents.Bronze
