Ord Ironarm: The original leader of the village, and the person who financed the original settlement.
Kataran Bearswift: An artist whose works became mildly famous in the region, and who taught a number of students. History: Gwaith Coed was initially a logging camp, set up in the Silverwing Forest. It was funded by Ord Ironarm, who had sold the blacksmith business they'd inherited from their family to try this venture. Wood would be harvested then sent down the Nerys River to their trading partners in other settlements in the spring. After initial years proved more profitable than expected, and other avenues of income began to become available, Ord Ironarm and his supporters felt that a more permanent settlement could be established. The location had the advantage of a forest on all sides that made it reasonably defensible, plenty of game and fish available, and since no one claimed clear ownership over the forest, they could hope to be left to their own devices. Conflict with the town of Shenby In the later 1900s SC, the leadership of the nearby settlement of Shenby became jealous of the community's success, and believed that they should have sole rights to log in the forest. They began to send hired mercenaries to harass them and raid the settlement. This led to the citizens erecting watch towers and keeping the canopy of the local area cut down. It did not cause the settlement long-term problems however. Unfortunately, the rulership of Shenby did not cease interfering, and eventually convinced one of Gwaith Coed's principal trading partners to stop supplying them with grain and barley, which caused a food shortage. Fortunately they were able to find alternative sources of grain, who were not so easily intimidated, but they weathered a very difficult winter first. Later, the lake where the community drew their water developed poisonous algae, and the citizens did not know how to clear it. A number of people became ill, before Shenby sent a delegation, which included a couple of druids and several clerics, offering to make the water safe again in exchange for a measure of political power. At their wits end, the village's council agreed to this, and Shenby was given two seats on the ten-person council. The clerics of Shenby also insisted on building a temple to Daeth, which was considerably more elaborate and expensive than the community's modest temple to Ferai.
