Session 0008 - The Prison

General Summary

Game Session 8 (18 Mar 2023)
Roll 20, Discord, Syrinscape (not working for some reason)
  • The Heretic see Klegg in the Black Swan before bedding down for the evening. Verbena plays a bardic "Song of the Rest" for the Inn's customers, earning her enough money to pay for the party's room and board. Klegg waves to the Heretic but says " I can not stay, I have to go but I will see you in the morning!". He then has a cutting board filled with sausages and cheeses for them, some of Klegg's finest!

  • The Heretic goes to sleep for the evening. Upon awakening, they find themselves in a holding cell of sorts. It's entirely made of stone, with stone tile upon the floor. A drain for "waste" is in the Northwest corner of the room. In the center of the room is a Glyph or Sigil that is reminiscent of the symbol of Pisces. The Sigil glows a faint purple. The Heretic see three other prisoners they do not know amongst them. No one can hear one another as there seems to be some sort of muting or deafening effect in the room. Not a sound can be heard. One of the female Human prisoners mouths the words to them "it's because of the symbol, we can not hear each other".

Prison of Silence

  • After some time, a person walks into the room with a Human guard. He snaps his fingers and the mute/deaf effect of the room is dispelled. The apparent prison-keeper did not introduce himself, but went immediately into a line of questioning, asking the Heretic what they thought they were doing trying to find the abducted children. Cathlynn in particular made no excuses for her desire to rescue the children, and was quite confused as to why anyone would ask such a ridiculous question.

  • The prison-keeper bantered with them for awhile, then just before leaving, he shape-shifted himself into Klegg, leaving the Heretic to question whether this shape shifter was imitating Klegg to make them feel like Klegg was this shape-shifter that was clearly part of the child abduction ring, or whether he was trying to make them understand that as a shape-shifter, he could be anyone, at anytime around them whenever he felt like it. The Shape-shifter and the prison guard left, but they left the "silencing" effect of the glyph down, so that the Heretic and the other three prisoners could talk more freely.

  • After introductions, the six prisoners tried to piece together why they were where they were and how they got there. No one had a memory of how they got there, nor did they find a Common thread amongst themselves. About thirty minutes later, the prison door opened once again, and the Human guard came in to retrieve Matteu. The retrieval was wordless and without explanation.

  • Matteu was introduced to an individual who asked him a few questions about who he was and where he was from, and what the necklace was that all three of the Heretic wore.

  • This person eventually removed the "Necklace of Strangulation" from Matteu's neck before returning him to the prison cell with the others. When this prison-keeper returned Matteu, he had a conversation with Cathlynn and Verbena, and likewise removed their "Necklace of Strangulation" as well. Before today, it was told by Keesha that this necklace could not be removed by anyone other than Keesha herself.

  • The prison-keeper left the room once again. The Heretic and their three new companions began to search the room for ways out. Matteu discovered that the door to the jailcell was not quite all the way latched. He discerned that he could open it, but if he slipped in the slightest, the latch would fully lock and the door would full be closed and locked. As a precaution, Sken offered a scale from his skin that was about to shed so that Matteu could use it to "credit card" the latch to ensure it stayed open while Matteu tried to open the door. Matteu rolled a natural 20 and was obviously extremely successful in opening the door
.
  • The prisoners crept out of the jail into the next room. Before them lied a sleeping giant humanoid, something they discerned to likely be an ogre. The ogre had his back turned towards them and was clearly in a deep slumber. The prisoners saw only one door in the room and they went through that door.

Escape from the dungeon

  • Within that chamber was a storage room of sorts. In there, they were able to find all of their items except any magical items such as Rammstein and other such magical items.

  • The party left the storage room through a secondary door to the south. There, they find a great hall that contained a few similar sigils embedded in the floor as they found in their prison cell.

  • The party began to head south to investigate a long dark hall. As Sken and Matteu, the leaders of the party that headed down this way, passed beyond a column, two zombies lurked in the column's shadows and lept out at them as they crossed by. A few rounds later, the zombies were obliterated, mostly due to Sken's spellcraft that involved fireballs.

  • In the long hall beyond the column, the party found jail cells to the West, and an archway to the East. Leading the investigation, Matteu went into the eastern room and found a torture chamber of sorts, where two freshly tortured and dissected corpses lied upon two of the three "examination" tables.

  • Matteu searched the room thoroughly and found a trail of blood that led between a southern column in the room to the empty examination table. He searched the room for secret doors, but found none.
