Open Sector Expeditions
Expeditions while exploring Open Sectors serve as a cornerstone of NEXUS, offering players opportunities to explore large, intricately designed, open-world maps called Open Sectors. These vast landscapes are teeming with elaborately designed environments, enemy AI, NPCs, and other players that may be helpful or looking for a fight. Braving these dangers can result in valuable treasure if players can Extract and make it out alive.
The core focus of Expeditions centers around Player VS Environment gameplay, either solo or as part of a Squadron. As players navigate through the sprawling landscapes of Open Sectors, they will encounter a myriad of captivating objectives such as Bounties and Quests while overcoming significant threats. Friendly Fire is always disabled so players can collaborate without fear of unintentional harm to one another, allowing them to focus on achieving shared goals.
However, to keep players on their toes, invaders can arrive looking to take what they have. Every 30-60 minutes, a flagged PVP invasion can occur in a given Open Sector, where a solo player or a full Squadron of three players may enter the area with hostile intent. This element of surprise introduces high-stakes dynamic encounters, adding an element of tension and excitement.
To ensure a balanced and fair PVP experience, character statistics are normalized during Expedition invasions, ensuring that the outcome relies on strategy, skill, and teamwork rather than individual gear and power disparities..
Expeditions are high-risk, high-reward activties as players gamble with losing their hard-earned gear during encounters. This dangeous mindset incentivizes players to think tactically and choose their actions carefully. Should they successfully extract from an Expedition, the spoils of their triumph await, including valuable Loot and Experience Points to aid in character progression.
The maximum player limit for an Open Sector instance is set at 15, although some maps can accommodate smaller groups for more intimate experiences. Matchmaking algorithms strive to pair solo players with other solos and coordinate teams against teams to ensure a competitive and enjoyable experience for all participants.
