Sinclair Mansion

The Sinclair Mansion is a former haunted house that now serves as one of the best-kept orphanariums in Haven City, in part due to a hidden sponsorship from the black market dealer Stane who secretly employs many of the orphans.

Early History

This falling apart mansion was once the home of the Sinclair family, one of the many lines of nobility in Haven City. Once a powerful family, their metaphorical fortunes turned sour when the head of the family angered the pirate Captain Xavier and he began to steal their literal fortunes from trade ships. Though Captain Xavier's luck eventually ran out, by the time it did he'd already done irreparable damage to the Sinclair family's funding and reputation. The family patron committed suicide, and these days the name 'Sinclair' is no more prominent than any other common name in the streets of Haven City.   Their old family home has sat abandoned ever since and is said to be haunted by the spirit of their former head of household, his soul bound to the place as a result of his suicide. The occasional curious individual has gone into the house to investigate, though if the rumors about the place are true, none have ever come back out.

Welcome to Haven City Arc

A group of adventurers explored this mansion after finding a map etched into an adamantine bar that indicated Captain Xavier's Lost Treasure was hidden here. Though they knew the house was haunted, they were somewhat unprepared at just how haunted it was. Their magical weapons proved useless against the spirits infesting the place as they realized the mansion was desecrated, making the monsters much more powerful than normal. Luckily, some poor souls who'd previously explored the place (and died in it) left behind magical objects that could capture and contain the spirits. It concluded with a battle against the wraith of Captain Xavier himself, who killed the adventurer Vinnie Vice before his capture.   Several days later, Leh'ct returned to the now haunting-free mansion with several of his orphan friends to show the place off to them. He intended to have them turn it into a secret base, which he was able to convince the other kids was a good idea with the help of Becky. Stane observed this through the constructs he'd had following some of the kids around disguised as tinker toys and had them get to work renovated the place, repairing what they could and throwing out what they couldn't.   This turned out to be a great boon when the Crows burned down the orphanarium as a result of Leh'ct's refusal to comply with Marchioness Eve's demands. Warden Herman was able to buy the property (which everyone else still believed haunted) cheaply with money Leh'ct had left behind before the boy fled the city. Stane also ensured supplies left behind by Leh'ct and his companions were delivered here, giving the orphans enough food (and means to grow more) to ensure they'd all be able to eat properly from now on.
