Tortle
Originating from Wahar, Tortles are a quasi-nomadic people known for the large shells on their backs and large stature who are dedicated to exploration and the discovery of stories.
Tortles are mostly known by their wanderers and explorers, who travel far to learn the stories of the world to bring back to their people in Wahar. They are often kind and inquisitive, bordering on gossiping depending on the Tortle. From what stories they have shared, their culture is one based on community centered around the "Stone Homes", large city-like constructions in their homeland where the young ones are raised (as Tortles do not have families as most races know them) and their stories are etched into the walls when they return home from their journeys. These Stone Homes can hold up to 1000 Tortles, but rarely do as most of the time they are out traveling, with only the children and the old and guardians staying with them.
They are also a fiercely religious people, worshiping the gods Pachamama (creation and time), Inti (the sun and knowledge), and Mama Killa (the moon, menstruation, and justice).
Despite their wandering nature most people would still be surprised to see a Tortle. This is especially true the further from Wahar you go.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Tortle's and their civilization (spread out as it is) originates from Wahar, but most Tortles will be found wandering the world save for the rare times they are called home in great numbers.
Tortles are supposedly well known in Wahar, and not well known outside of there. The exception to this is Kalin, where a Tortle named LimKin is well loved and revered as a saint in The Mantle religion due to being a member of The Blessed Dead, the group responsible for saving the world from The Return. Much of the information known about Tortles is due to LimKim's stories, as well as the work between Waharian Tortles and Atresans after The Return in building a shrine to LimKin in Atresa.
Lifespan
Young tortles crawl for a few weeks after birth before learning to walk on two legs. They reach adulthood by the age of 15 and live an average of 150 years.
