Kenji's life began with happiness. Born alongside his twin Zara, even as infants the two had an inseparable bond. The love their parents Lloyd & Neria had for the twins was felt by everyone around them - they were a family full of hope and promise. But despite their best efforts, the tragedy of the Garmadon name struck full force, when Neria's life was lost while saving civilians from the city's latest threat. Lloyd was consumed by guilt and grief. Kenji was only two years old - and it was as if he lost both of her parents in one fell swoop. He cannot recall a time that his father seemed truly happy, could hardly believe that he ever smiled or laughed.
Kenji's element awoke later than the others - but his was the most memorable in the worst of ways. In a fit of rage, his powers burst from him, hitting Onyx and injuring her. The fear and hatred that lived inside of Kenji's family because of that very event, haunted him to the core. He felt isolated and scorned, like an outsider amongst the rest of them. And with no one to help him train as the Master of Destruction, Kenji lost all faith that he would ever belong again. Only Zara stood by his side through it all, even when one fateful day, his powers began to consume him, darkness seeping into his veins and burning his skin black.
Even years after the incident, Kenji remains a recluse. Convinced his entire team still views him as out of control, he hides the corruption from them, only entrusting Zara with his secret "curse" or "illness". At times he feels inclined to embrace its power - but the fear of becoming a monster keeps him still fighting, even in his darkest hours.
