Zara's life began with happiness. Born alongside her twin Kenji, even as infants the two had an inseparable bond. The love their parents Lloyd & Neria had for the twins was felt by everyone around them - they were a family full of hope and promise. But despite their best efforts, the tragedy of the Garmadon name struck full force, when Neria's life was lost while saving civilians from the city's latest threat. Lloyd was consumed by guilt and grief. Zara was only two years old - and it was as if she lost both of her parents in one fell swoop. She cannot recall a time that her father seemed truly happy, could hardly believe that he ever smiled or laughed.
When destiny granted her the role of the next Master of Energy, Zara felt slighted. She became resentful of her own powers, refused to participate in any sort of training, and lashed out at everyone around her. It wasn't until Kenji's powers of Destruction began to take a toll on him, that she found her purpose again. She would refuse to use her powers conventionally - but still she trained like hell in her own way, because her brother's wellbeing depended on her. Despite her youth, she has a jaded and realistic view of the world. She refuses to accept the destinies laid out for her and Kenji, and remains the sole member of the team with the courage to unabashedly stand up to their Sensei.
