Ivan Rasputin (Former Lives: Ruslan Staladin - Soul Name: Boxack)
A transgender man who's appearance is a result of a transition spell cast with citrine (Fully Transition or Body Alteration Spell). The results of this spell left him with a beard and no hair, the inability to reproduce and the mostly functioning body of man. A large source of his frustrations and anger with the world come from the pain he suffered as a child living in a body he despised and being forced to live a way that didn't align with who he was. He has always struggled to fit in and feel comfortable around various groups of people. Because of the heavy testosterone driven spell he used, he doesn't fit in with other elvish men who have more feminine features so he is still living on the outside of society, even though he passes as a man. He chooses to embrace his beard because he still sees the masculine beauty behind it and it is a sense of gender euphoria for him, even if he's treated differently because of it.
In his former life he was Ruslan Staladin, the father of Anessen and the husband of Ilya. He was a first-born prince and was very privileged and entitled. His father instilled dangerous old traditions that Ruslan supported and tried to uphold, even though they were starting to tear their country apart. His wife Ilya was a princess who spent the first few years of their marriage as a diligent wife and was very popular among the people. She was referred to as the people's princess and she made Ruslan more popular in turn. When he became emperor however, they started to fight. She wanted him to change the ways of the country and open the doors for progress. He wanted her to do as he said and felt like he had that power over her. Things eventually came to a head and when he caught her cheating on him with the Head of the KAV, his right hand man, Melryn, he killed the other man in anger and betrayal. He felt more betrayed by Melryn, than he did Ilya (Because you have to remember, with men like this, they don't respect women and it's easy for him to just wave off her actions as 'she's a whore'. Melryn was his second in command, his most trusted soldier and he was stabbed in the back.) Ilya, tricks Ruslan back into their bedroom and she stabs him before killing herself out of guilt.
Ivan is very in tune with his past lives. He spent more time in them as a child than in his current life because he felt they were better than his reality. He was born as a daughter to Anessen Staladin after Natasha had died during childbirth. Anessen, wrought with grief and disappointed to find his child was a girl and not a boy like Natasha had promised, became a very neglectful distant father. He felt humiliated and was deeply broken by Natasha's passing.
Ivan, being who he was, was living in hell in this environment. All he wanted to do was prove himself to his father but this proved to never be successful. Finally, when he was fifteen, he cast the spell on himself to transition before going to his father and showing him how he could finally be the son he wanted.
Anessen was disgusted and horrified by this though and he demanded that Ivan turn back into a girl. Ivan refused and was subjected to torturous experiments by kingdom's clerics before Anessen finally disowned him, pronounced Natalya dead and sent him to the military Academy of Voyennyy. Here Lucyen took Ivan under his wing once Anessen revealed his true identity and made him swear not to tell a soul and to personally protect him and ensure he be given a good ranking (all of this being said behind Ivan's back).
Ivan decided that taking over the KAV was the first step in his plan to destroy his father and take his rightful place as emperor. He worked tirelessly to be the best soldier he could and advanced in rank quicker than most other students. When he was introduced to Evelyn Malenthot he recognized her as Melryn's soul when they felt sjelevyn and he decided to get his revenge. He tortured Evelyn for as long as he could while trying to get her to join him in his plot, knowing that she would be a powerful asset if he could convince her and use her. He knew how good of a soldier she had been in her past life and he felt that he could use that to his advantage, while also torturing her as his personal revenge for the affair she had with his wife and for betraying their friendship.
When she dies from the abortion, he goes and finds her body and cast the spell reincarnate on her, turning her into a darker skinned, red-headed elf and giving her his deadname, Natalya. He brainwashes her, leaving her with no memory of her former self and takes her back to the Military Academy and assigns Dmitri to train her.
His darkest thoughts start to manifest at this point and he uses the ability to brainwash her to take advantage of her in other ways, to feel like he has regained the power in their relationship. He wants her to feel completely under his thumb and at his mercy. This is the start of his true darkest demons coming to light. He uses magic, specifically a pink sapphire charm spell, to seduce and rape her. In these moments, she believes and acts as though she loves him and enjoys it which leaves Ivan in a very very complicated mindset. Eventually he kind of believes that what he's doing is okay because in the moment, she seems to be enjoying it so she must like him, even if she doesn't think she does. He doesn't want to risk the true answer there so he continues to charm her.
When Anessen meets Natalya (knowing that she's Ivan's mistress) he demands to sleep with her as a power play against his son. He genuinely just wants to hurt Ivan and put him in his place because he's heard innumerable rumors that Ivan will try to over throw him. (From Anessen's perspective) It's a reminder to Ivan that he's not a 'real' man, he's no longer royalty and he cannot have the things he wants.
The wild card is that Natalya kills Anessen that night and escapes. Ivan is dumbfounded and convinces himself that she did this for him and purely to help him ascend to the throne and take his place as the emperor. (She did not) He believes she feared for her safety and that she would be killed so she escaped, when in reality, she's a hero and he wants to celebrate her. He sends everyone and their blind cat to go look for her but she disappears into the mountains with help from Dmitri.
He decides to start ruling and reimplements things that Anessen changed and is known for being a traditionalist and for being a very cold, tough ruler. He doesn't have good interpersonal skills so his likeability among the upper class and other rulers is horrible. He takes to killing those who don't like or agree with his decisions. He always feels like everything is just out of his control and it drives him crazy.
The number one thing that Ivan wants most is control, because he has never felt like he was in control of anything and the sad thing is, he never really will.
When Natalya comes back to him after her relationship with Fenneck falls apart and her reputation is destroyed when she was accused of murdering the king of Thymryu, Ivan knows that it's a façade but he can't prove otherwise. Their relationship at this point becomes a tug of war of control and bad decisions. When she gets pregnant, he knows the child is not his because he knows he cannot reproduce (literally can't ejaculate - same physical limitations as transgender men who have bottom surgery today) he plays along because he doesn't want to out himself. (Let's be real, he's probably pissing if he ever is trying to have evidence of ejaculation.)
Their marriage is when Ivan really starts to spiral out of control because he has everything he's ever wanted but it's a living nightmare for him. He doesn't know how to be happy. He doesn't know how to fix it. He's unwilling to give Natalya the reins for fear she'll betray him. And as a result, the country is suffering and political unrest is at an all time high across the entire continent.
Ivan Pufuktin was the bastard son of Anessen Staladin who was cursed by Corellon to be born as a half-elf because Corellon refused to give up one of his elvish souls for Anessen because of the curse. He was raised to become a soldier in the KAV and quickly moved through the ranks and became the general with help from Mephistopheles and his father. He met Natalya Ivanhoff again when she was in her fifties and chose her to join the KAV and was overcome with lust and and desire for her, planted in him by Mephistopheles. As a result he started charming her and trying to date her so that she would fall in love with him but she never did. One night after an upsetting dinner with his father he raped Natalya and hit her without using magic and the next day she killed Staladin and escaped Lenisily, opening the door for Pufuktin to become emperor of Lenisily. Since then he has been trying to find her all the while implanting a very devious reputation for himself as the cruelest ruler of Lenisily to date. When he finds out that Natalya is engaged to Fenneck he is extremely upset and vows to destroy them both. Milosh Novikoff finally comes to Ivan and reveals that his brother, Dimitri, had been sleeping with Natalya for the last century underneath Ivan's nose. Ivan doesn't believe him but decides to test Milosh by sending him to kill Dimitri who had been getting older and less useful anyway. After he leaves Ivan starts to realize that it was true and he starts to seethe with anger. Milosh returns with the news that Dimitri is dead and reveals the information he discovered about the refugee program they had been running as well as a chess piece that Ivan is able to place a curse on to end Fenneck and Natalya's thiramin.
