Orvenia

Orvenia is a region located in the western part of Artan and is conventionally divided into Northern Orvenia and Southern Orvenia by the Orvenan River, which flows through the entire region from east to west in the direction of the Sunset Sea.

Geography

Orvenia is a territory consisting of a wide plain enclosed by mountain ranges on three sides and the Sunset Sea to the west. In the north, the imposing mountain range dividing the region from Tircandar is known as the Walls of Orvenia, usually called the Walls for simplicity's sake. Between the Moon Mountains to the east is the source of the Orvenan, the most imposing and important river in Orvenia from which the region takes its name. To the south lie the Shrouded Mountains, which for many centuries represented the southern limit of the kingdom of Artan.
Despite the numerous rivers that flow through the region, flowing into the Orvenan, the grassy plains alternate with more bare and stony areas and, in general, are sparse of tall vegetation and mostly characterised by large thorny bushes and grasses that manage to grow among the rocks in the hinterland. The landscape is flat and even the hills scattered across the region are normally low and isolated. On a clear day, it is indeed possible to see all the mountain ranges surrounding Orvenan simply by turning around. In addition to the Orvenan, there are four other navigable rivers: the Milgan and the Inar, which originate in the Shrouded Mountains, and the Duscan and the Elan, which have their source on the Walls of Orvenia. Forested areas are concentrated on the slopes of the mountains and consist of oak, hornbeam and pine forests.
