The Village of Berk

Demographics

This village is home to the many Vikings of the Hooligan Tribe, many Dragons as well as Dragon Shifters and those who had to flee from their home lands and now seek shelter.

Government

Berk is a Chiefdom ruled and lead by a chief who duties are to help the village with certain tasks, take lead when in battle, induct newborns into the tribe etc. It also has a Council that discusses important matters that can either benefit the village or make decisions that regard the survival in the threat of war. Berk is a village of equal treatment where both men and women can become warriors and fight in battles. Its also worth noting that if the current chief retires or passes away then their descendant shall take over as cheif. And by marriage whomever the current Chief marries would become Chieftess of the tribe.

Defences

Armory: The armory acts as a storage for weaponry. There is gunpowder or some other explosive substance inside.   Prison: A rarely used place on the village of Berk, used to hold enemies captured by the Hairy Hooligans. The Hooligan's cells are above ground in the village. The prison stands on a cliff that flows into the sea, which, in addition to numerous security measures, prevents the prisoners from escaping - they are forced to either jump into the ocean or go to the central part of the village, where they would be immediately noticed and caught. It is a small building with a rectangular shape and a sloping roof. It is made of wooden logs, tightly arranged together. Sharp wooden sticks protrude from the top of the roof, probably to prevent escapes through the hole in the roof. Above the entrance, along the entire structure, Viking shields are hung. There are two tall structures on either side of the prison - one of them is probably an watchtower armed with a catapult and the other is a well. Inside, there are about six cells with sturdy doors made of iron bars. The equipment is quite poor, sufficient for the humane detention of prisoners. Unlike the Outcast prison, it looks neat and comfortable. You can see that the prisoners staying there are treated well and with respect, they have convenient conditions and everything they need.

Industry & Trade

Blacksmith Shop: Gobber's Blacksmithing Forge is the main blacksmithing shop on the island and is built along a cliff opposite the Haddock house. It is where the Vikings got their weapons during the dragon raids. The forge is spacious with many weapons inside. Hiccup has a space secluded in the rear of the building for use as his own workshop. Lately, Gobber has become a dragon dentist, so he put up a sign above the forge with a tooth on it, though the forge is still used. It became the greatly expanded Dragon Armory where Gobber continued to practice his dragon dentistry and has dragon saddles built here. Both Hiccup and Stoick worked here on saddle orders.   Docks: The Docks in Berk have large individual docks for loading and unloading large cargo into the ships. The docks are built from the large cliff of Raven Point. A wooden walkway is built above the docks to view the ships from. Two large Viking statues with eternal flames in their mouths guard the waters entering the Berk Docks. One of these statues was destroyed once by a Bewilderbeast, and Hiccup had it rebuilt as a dragon.

Infrastructure

Well: The Well is a standard circular stone well which is dug a deep hole into an underground water source that helps supply the village with fresh and clean drinking water, which was dug around two years before the Dragons moved in. It now connects to another source of water after Whispering Deaths drained the source but dug a new channel.

Assets

Dragon Feeding Station: The Dragon Feeding Station is a building for dragons to feed themselves, thereby avoiding any conflicts between villager and dragon by providing an alternate food source to the Vikings' food stores.   Barn: A large barn exists at the base of the cliffs, and in front of it are large pens for the yaks the Vikings domesticated. Chickens and sheep are also kept here.   Berk Dragon Training Academy: Once the arena where Dragon Fighting class was held, it also housed several dragon species the Vikings had captured for training the younger Vikings to fight. It is also used for housing the battle between the best of the Dragon Training class. Later, Stoick gave Hiccup the arena to use as the Berk Dragon Training Academy, and a sign depicting a Night Fury was put up over the entrance. The dragon cages are kept intact, as the dragons are locked up here when they are causing trouble, and also Stoick's Thunderdrum, Thornado, was locked up here with a muzzle when he was still aggressive.   Dragon Grooming Station: The Dragon Grooming Station is a hut for dragons to care of themselves, and in which their riders can groom them. They can bathe, exfoliate, and possibly dry off over hot coals.   Dragon Stables: Using the tunnels and caverns that were created and found following the Whispering Death and Screaming Death attacks, Hiccup and Gobber were able to build the stables with custom stalls for the various dragons. The stables also had storm doors.   Library: The library on Berk has a collection of sources of information and similar resources for the village to use.

Points of interest

Gothi's Hut: A house built high up on top of a steep peak that houses Gothi, the village elder. She has it secured on tall scaffolding, that need many stairs to reach. Because her home is located very high up, Gothi likely has a good view of the entire village from her front door.   The Great Hall: The Great Hall is the centerpiece of the village, serving as a communal hall for the Hooligans. They gather to meet, eat, and discuss political matters within its walls. A long set of stone steps lead ceremoniously to its entrance. It is arguably the most important and iconic structure on Berk. The Great Hall is considered the heart of Berk due to its importance in the Hooligan Tribe.

Architecture

Haddock House: The Haddock house is where Hiccup, Valka and Stoick live, therefore it is also the chief's house. it is built on top of the high slope overlooking the entire village. The house is larger in comparison with other homes and is located right next to the Great Hall. It has steps leading up to the front door and two stone structures at the threshold of the steps.   Hofferson House: The Hoffersen House is where Astrid and her parents live, the house itself shows references to the Deadly Nadder by it having a Nadder figurehead and covered in spikes.

Geography

Berk is a rather round, similar in shape to an oval, and it looks quite small on maps. It has very few sea stacks. However, it contains many interesting geological landforms such as rocky arches and cliffs, beaches, waterfalls, streams, and several large forests. There is also a massive cavern under the village which now serves as a space for dragon stables.

Climate

Berk is known to have extremely cold, long winters and short dry summers. However, the weather often seems to be clear, yet cold. Most of the time Berk appears to be green and growing.
