The Age of Turmoil saw the balance of good and evil constantly shift. It began with
Mayong Mistmoore's assault on the
Plane of Music, and has yet to end. There was turmoil across Norrath and the
Planes of Power. There are more adventurers than ever in Norrath, and the mortals are tired of being at the mercy of their creators. However, even though the gods and mortals were constantly at odds, there were a few who helped the mortals bring balance to their world, and the mortals sought to bring balance to the cosmos.
Dissonance in the Plane of Music
The
Plane of Music, home to
Ayonae Ro, was invaded by
Mayong Mistmoore, the first
Vampire. He corrupted every corner of the realm into cesspool and renamed it the Theater of Blood. The gods quickly took notice of this imminent threat to the balance of power among the pantheon, and thusly returned their attention to the mortals of Norrath for the first time since the invasion of the
Planes of Power. Several gods opened their planes to the adventurers of Norrath in an attempt to prepare them for an assault on
Mayong Mistmoore.
Druzzil Ro, was integral to this reclamation of the
Plane of Music.
Ayonae was trapped and corrupted herself by
Mayong's overwhelming power. Being not herself, she fought the mortals that invaded her once beautiful tower. Upon her defeat, the curse was lifted and she was able to establish order to her realm, and the gods erected the Great Barrier once more.
Turbulence in the Plane of Storms
Karana, the Rainkeeper and ruler of the
Plane of Storms, was trapped in his home plane by a powerful demigod wizard named
Agnarr, who sought to usurp
Karana's role as the god of storms. While he was trapped, and endless rain drifted across all of Norrath. This did not last long, however, as the mortals were able to break
Agnarr's spell on the
Plane of Storms and free
Karana. In exchange for his freedom,
Karana taught the mortals about
Zebuxoruk, the god of knowledge.
Turmoil on Norrath
Antonius Bayle IV would travel often to the Jaggedpine Forest and become good friends with Frenway Marthank. He trained with Ebon Strongbear and Kane Bayle in the Hall of Steel where became good friends with Milea Clothspinner – resulting in a great quest decreed by
Antonius Bayle III for Milea, Frenway, Vhalen Nostrolo and
Antonius IV to take the
Qeynos Claymore to distant lands. There he met with Lady Shae and Mayor Grubbin and eventually arrived in Lesser Faydark, where Mayor Gubbin found his fortune enough to later become mayor of the
Halfling town of
Rivervale. From this quest,
Antonius Bayle IV became romantically involved with Lady Shae, but it was eventually broken off by the Circle of Ten, an advisory council in
Qeynos, and the
High Elves of
Felwithe. Shortly after these events,
Antonius Bayle III would eventually pass away and
Antonius IV would be crowned king.
Shortly after his crowning, his brother, Kane Bayle, was made Captain of the Guard where he became lulled into involvement with the Bloodsabers, a dark clan of
Bertoxxulous worshippers far under the city of
Qeynos. He plotted endlessly with them for the control of
Qeynos while
Antonius was blissfully unaware. During this period,
Valdoartus Varsoon, the
Dark Elf of the
Combine Empire, began to influence the Bloodsabers into a dark alliance. In the Temple of Life, the area of
Qeynos dedicated to paladins and healers and their gods, the troll Xicotl attempted to steal the legendary weapon,
Soulfile, but only made away with the hilt.
Soon after the alliance between the Bloodsabers and
Varsoon, their plans were successful and a great plague spread across the Plains of Karana killing countless people. Some say even
Bertoxxulous walked the land in these dark times, but
Varsoon was successfully defeated by adventurers and escaped. A body was discovered for
Varsoon and was promptly burned and the ashes laid in a crypt within the Qeynos Hills. The
Elves of
Faydwer attempted their second landing on the continent of
Kunark and establish a city named
Firiona Vie, named after one of the
High Elf kings' daughters. The
Dark Elves also found themselves a home on the opposite side of
Kunark and established a city in the remains of an old
Iksar city. The heroine
Firiona Vie was captured by Danak but eventually rescued by the great
Erudite wizard
Al'Kabor and others.
Firiona Vie would later have her memories wiped by the
Ring of Scale and would return to confront them with
Al'Kabor.
Gnomish Pirates discover a passage through the frigid barrier with a grand ship they named The Icebreaker and soon many races begin to travel to
Velious where relations are built between the Coldain of Thurgadin and the Kromzek of Kael Drakkal. As the races explored the lands and adventurers sought treasures in ancient dragon homes and temples, a great threat was unleashed as Kerafyrm, The Sleeper, was awoken who subsequently left his tomb and attacked the dragon city of Skyshrine, believing to have killed it's leader Lord Yelinak.
Al'Kabor, on his journey to
Kunark with
Firiona Vie, began to study the gigantic Quadroliths used by the
Shissar and
Combine Empire to escape from Norrath to
Luclin. From this knowledge, he opened the first portal since the fall of the
Combine Empire to the land of
Luclin where a relationships was built once again with the lost people of Shadow Haven and the world of Norrath. The
Vah'Shir were also discovered on
Luclin and many new races including the hostile Akheva and Grimlings.
The Gift of Knowledge
Zebuxoruk, the god most sympathetic to the mortals of Norrath, discovered how to break through the barrier that the elemental gods erected in the
Age of Blood. He taught his disciples in his home
Plane of Knowledge, the only plane where mortals are welcome and some even live. Soon after these events strange books began to appear around the world of Norrath that appeared to be direct links to the
Plane of Knowledge. There in the city of New Tanaan as it was called, perhaps related to the ancient city of Tanaan built years past, aid was requested from adventurers to help find the lost god
Zebuxoruk, for it was he who could break the mortals free of their godly creators.
