Bertoxxulous
The Plaguebringer
Ruling from his Crypt of Decay on the Plane of Disease, Bertoxxulous is the god of disease and death. He associates with oozes, undead, and all manner of evil creatures. Bertoxxulous is revered by necromancers and few others, but these worshiper are enough for him.
History
He is the only greater god not to be created by an elemental god. Instead, he was created out of the bodies of all the Xulous Kings when a Xulous necromancer made a sacrifice to the gods to preserve their race in the Age of Scale. After his creation, he conquered and twisted the Xulous into horrific, diseased creatures. In his satisfaction for his new creations he transcended their home, The Ruins of Lxanvon, to the Plane of Disease where it would forever be known as the Crypt of Decay. With his immense power gifted by the other gods, Bertoxxulous consumed Xul’Varien and became the ruler of Plane of Disease. Although Bertoxxulous has no creations left in Norrath, his influence has been felt throughout its history. After the fall of the Combine Empire, humans spread across the continent then known as Tunaria. Many settled on the west coast and the surrounding plains. A cult of Necromancers devoted to the Plaguebringer nearly ended the rise of the human race before they ever got started. Antonius Bayle I's contributions in leading a victorious defense of Oceangreen led to the establishment of Qeynos and the renaming of the continent to Antonica. Throughout the Age of Turmoil, a temple to Bertoxxulous remained hidden beneath the city of Qeynos. Another was built by the Orcs of Clan Crushbone, in northern Faydwer.Followers
Bertoxxulous plague-ridden followers believe in one simple rule: Everything Dies. While disgusting and horrific to most, they see the decomposition of flesh as a sacred thing. Bruises, blisters, pus, oozing sores, infected cuts, and contagious rashes are just a few things that followers of Bertoxxulous treasure. Unsurprisingly, necromancers are some of his most common devotees. While they surround themselves in death and unlife, do not mistake them as ones who seek death themselves. It is their mission to serve Bertoxxulous to spread disease around the world for as long as possible. Bertoxxulous's divine symbol is that of his skeletal hand holding a small scythe. A putrid green eye is fixed where the shaft meets the blade. It is said mortals slain by this scythe have their souls destroyed and never find peace on their desired plane.Avatar
When the Plaguebringer came to Norrath, he was said to be a decaying hunchback cloaked in a tattered robe. Strangely, his face, when visible, appeared to be that of a handsome man.Relationships
