The City of Bronze, built by the
Elves as a home for foreigners on
Faydwer, was a flourishing port city that helped bring foriegn commerce to and from the continent. As it's wealth and population began to grow, so did its seedy underbelly, and this began to draw the eye of the lawful
Elves. So, early leaders of the city enacted strict laws and punishments in an effort to maintain order and avoid the ire of the
Elves.
In recent years, a wealthy human named
Roven Mirthhorn ascended the political ranks and became governor. Blessed with the natural ability to captivate an audience with speech, the Governor Mirthhorn wasted no time spreading his message. The gifted governor spoke of new beginnings; a resurgence of the way life used to be in a vibrant past that the city had forgotten; a time of personal freedom, not oppressive governance.
The testimony of
Mirthhorn fell on eager ears. Used to a life of order and obedience, most citizens welcomed the governor's words. They took his self-proclaimed wisdom and used it as a gospel for how to lead their lives. As
Mirthhorn's reign continued, the city's laws laxed with the exception of one: do nothing to attract the ire of the
Elves.
While this kept
Kelethin and
Felwithe out of their business, small waves of disorder began to plague the perfect City of Bronze. As crime began to flourish in the dregs of the city, city leaders used whatever means necessary to cover-up the problems, for they had no desire to lift the veil that covered the public eye, allowing the encroaching chaos to be exposed. Despite their efforts, increasing crime left city leaders on edge.
The city now lies in a precarious state, teetering between order and criminal chaos under its vaneer of law and order put on for the
Elves.
Points of Interest
The Bashed's Wrath
Run by
Philomena Kettlewhistle, the tavern is a plaster and sprawling single storey building, with a white shingled roof and a row of flowers around the building. It was once a barracks, and has a collection of arms and armor. It contains well-stocked workshop and a huge collection of alcohol behind the bar.
Eida's Secrets
A young friendly
Halfling woman named
Eida Cherrycheeks runs this alchemy shop. It doesn't carry much beyond the basic potion, but every once in awhile a ship will come in with something special. It is a wooden tower, with a red tile roof and roughly hewn wooden furniture. A number of hunting trophies line the walls. It contains a large candelabra and a preserved salamander hanging from the ceiling.
The Night's Sun
Jewelry is a frequently traded commodity in the port city, and almost all of it eventually passes through the Night's Sun. Whether it be appraisal, trade, or sale, the shop's proprietor
Ahlyssa Wilberforce is the person to see. The shop is a timber framed two-storey building, with a green tile roof and a small vegetable garden. It contains religious paraphernalia on the walls and beaded gems hanging from the rafters.
Adelaide's Enchantments
Run by stern old
Adelaide Sherwood, this small shops trades minor magical items and offers basic enchanting services for jewelers and smiths. She is visited suspiciously often by some of the city's less-than-savory citizens.
The Sandy Haul
Pikar Stoutbridge often found himself on the wrong side of the law back in
Rivervale, but Ellirion is much more forgiving of his "profession." He's since opened up a general store to serve the town's needs. The general store is a wooden and large single storey building, with a white tile roof and dead hedges. It contains a number of pots and miscellaneous supplies hanging from the ceiling and several lanterns hanging from the roof beams.
Bronze Bastion
This large building serves as the barracks for the town guard. It is captained by a
Half Elf named
Zanros "Zan" Silverspot. They maintain order in the better parts of town and its facade in the rest.
Zan is constantly frustrated by the leeway given to criminals by Governor
Mirthhorn.
The Undercity
The undercity is the metaphorical term for the organized criminal underworld of Ellirion. Smuggling is the biggest illegal industry in Ellirion, with dozens of ships entering its ports a month. Unlike the ports in
Felwithe and
Kaladim, Ellirion's port authority is much more easily persuaded to overlook the occassional extra crate.
The biggest name in the underworld is
Corym Trisfaren, one of the few
Elven crimelords on Norrath. He took power after the mysterious death of his father, Zoren. He is nothing if not a man of his word and values loyalty in his organization above nearly everything. Knowing that it's impossible to stamp out crime, Governor
Roven Mirthhorn has a working relationship with
Corym Trisfaren;
Mirthhorn overlooks some of
Corym's indiscretions while
Corym makes sure that his enterprise does not anger the neighboring
Elves. Sometimes arrests must be made, but they don't tend to last long. While this arrangment definitely skews in the favor of
Corym, both consider it to be a win-win overall.
The Abyss
The Abyss is most people's first, and thankyfully only, experience with the underworld. It is a lodging establishment near the docks that doubles as an underground fighting ring. It does very little to mask its true purpose. Run by
Artimer Billows, a greedy man that relishes in the violence he hosts, the smell of cigars, alcohol, blood, and sweat fills the air inside. For those who need coin and think they can fight, it's the easiest path. For those who need coin to make ends meet, it's often the only path.
