Io
Tumultuous and impermenant is the surface of Planet Io.
Io had been tidally locked to Jupiter, but since the Vulcanalia it has maintained a slow rotation created by the blast force. Under a new star, increased temperatures and fluvial developments within the mantle have made the already dangerous planet into a hellscape. Daytime on Io is the most hostile environment in the system. The Eye of Io is a melting storm, always affacing Jupiter. Not even the planets crust endures it. As the melt rolls along the equator, reaching up and down into the hemispheres it takes the natural shape of an eye.The Green Cult regards this as a natural aspect of change and renewal. Nightside the planetary crust is at its strongest. Embedded in the black rock, persisting lava streams paint the night sky orange. When morning comes, crystalized sulfer deposits ignite in the daylight, casting a wave of blue flame that lingers along the planets dawnline. A refined atmosphere keeps the ion storms above the planet surface.
In the early days of Jupiters Colonization, none made political claim over the molten wastes of Io. Instead it became a proving grounds, where the bold and fearless could test themselves in the fiery wastelands. Clan Io started as a band of thrillseeking adventurers working together to welcome more initiates into their renowned lifestyle. The nomadic citizens of Io have refused scientific proposals to terraform and stabalize the crust; even after the Vulcanalia drastically enchanced the planets hostile qualities. Organics can only survive in this environment with advanced protective measures. Even synths have been known to break down the hostile enviroment, adding their minerals to the planets mantle, forever churning. But it may be fair to say that no planet in the system has observed greater unity between human and synth than Io. Io's only land based structures are the Torii Gates, which are used to mark checkpoints in natural obstacle courses, for as long as they linger in the impermanent planet surface. When the Toris are destroyed the course itself is not considered incomplete, but merely requires adaptation from the course runner.
