Alden grew up in the small coastal village of Ivadoor, where he apprenticed under both the local carpenter and the town’s healer. He joined a whaling ship as a carpenter’s mate, learning the intricacies of shipbuilding and repair, as well as how to stitch wounds and set broken bones on the rolling deck of a ship. After a particularly rough voyage, he found himself ashore and at a tavern where he met Jae. Smitten by her spirit and intrigued by the prospect of adventure, he joined the crew as the ship’s carpenter and surgeon, where his calm, methodical approach became a vital asset. Alden is patient, thoughtful, and endlessly kind. He’s the steady hand in the storm, always knowing what to say to calm a frightened crew member or soothe a screaming patient. He takes pride in his work, whether he’s crafting a new mast or stitching up a wound, and has a deep love for the sea that mirrors his wife’s.
