Derna

Derna is the largest city on the Baranian coast, north of Sparsport. It is a pirate city, run by a Viking warlord, King Sigurd the Black, and home to his group of Viking beserker mercenaries, the Ulfhednar. Derna makes its living in piracy, and recevies regular tribute from the Jarl of Mizenholm and the council in Sparsport. They also collect taxes from anyone and everyone moving along the Baranian coast on land or sea. They regularly conduct raids on the Walandar and Miriadorian coasts as well on the Hesterherre, and lately have grown bold and sporadically travelled as fas the as the Coringian coast across the Disparate Sea. A few Derna ship captains have even sought to make headway against the elves of Mariarion. The city itself is surrounded by a wooden wall of timbers that is overwatched by wooden guard towers.  It is open to the sea, as the city relies on it fleet of ships to protect it from sea-borne raiders or an invading fleet.   The city's ecomony is predicated largely on the Derna fleet raiding other communities and the tribute paid to the King by neighboring towns and cities.
