Violet Verihendrion Miller
Likely the first of Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters's children to have been discovered by the The Ladies' Hiking Club, Violet is a shy, soft-spoken, staggeringly beautiful young woman of Elvish descent. She was raised by Sister Janet in the Temple of Eldath in The Portavian Quarter of the Wandering City.
Meeting with the Adventurers
Encounter with Vega Spritzer
A part-time student at the Bard's College focusing on Storytelling, Violet was first spotted by Vega Spritzer in the temple immediately after Sister Janet wondered aloud why Eldath would have caused their paths to cross. She followed Violet to class and ham-handedly invited the whole class to The Lamplight Inn to attend Beulah Garland's performance later that evening -- naturally casting a spell to cover herself in grave moths to bolster her self-confidence first. Incredibly, Violet did come along with some members of her class on 20th Winterfall, 866WA. Vega approached her to advise her to speak with Beulah after the performance, again bursting into moths and stammering a bit as she got her words out. For her part, Violet took note of Vega's spectacular hair but accidentally sneezed in her face, trying unsuccessfully to wipe her off with a nasty bar rag. She was so flustered herself by her embarrassment that she accepted Vega's foreshadowing about their meeting having been divinely ordained wholly uncritically. With that impetus to stick around, she spoke with Beulah at length after the concert about her own plans, divulging that she had a passion for performance but was torn between it, the reliability of a career in diplomacy or the fulfillment of a life in the church.Meeting her (Mother?)
Clytemnestra spotted Violet from the stairs, immediately identifying her and approaching her with a sensitive disclosure of their relationship. Violet did not respond immediately until Clytemnestra called her by her true last name, which seems to have been somewhat of a secret she'd kept her whole life. Beulah was impressed to see an unvarnished and vulnerable Fanny speaking genuine truths to a long-lost daughter. So were about eighteen other bar patrons that Cherry promptly showed out. At first tentative but accepting, Violet became overwhelmed as she realized that all the women -- the bashful cleric with the invitation, (her mother?), and the stellar performer were all in cahoots and advising her that her life was in danger. She began to snap at Fanny over her immediate protestations of grave concern, and after calming herself advised the group that she intended to leave. The conversation was taking place after midnight and she asked if Fanny would be at the Lamplight the following evening for dinner, as she had other people to make enquiries of before she was ready for that meeting."I don't need you to walk me home. I am home. You left me here, and I'm fine. I've been fine."Violet Miller
Adorable Surveillance
At Cherry Merrybottom's request, Peaseblossom tailed Violet out of the pub and followed her home. Violet had hardly left when she encountered her friend William from school, who expressed concern about her emotional state and suggested they walk together. They proceeded to the docks instead of home, and spoke for approximately an hour and a half. At that point, William seems to have thought he spotted an opportunity to advance their relationship and tried to kiss her. Not being in any emotional state to process this further situation, she shouted at him and returned to the temple alone, but safe.Dinner with Mom
The following evening, Violet went for a terrible tomato-and-beef stew dinner with Clytemnestra (why was tarragon the choice here?) at the Lamplight but had a good time in spite of the food. Her mother is a compelling storyteller, and the fledgling bard soaked up her tales of ribaldry and adventures on the wrong side of the law. She left to return to the temple, but shortly after arriving there her mom's bodyguard Viga Spratzer exploded some poor old lady praying in the pews. That little old lady suddenly started speaking in a creepy low voice and a huge fight broke out. Violet shoved Sister Janet out of the way just as the stained glass smashed out on the south side of the temple, and she grabbed the warhammer the Temple of Tyr had gifted them last Midwinter in case either of them headed up towards the Cloister. The fighting seemed to stop as soon as it had begun, however, and although Viga had gone somewhere, her mom and her Bard, Beulah (the latter in tears) came back into the temple for comfort. Violet brewed tea but no one said thank you or tried any. It was all right, though, it seemed like they'd been through a lot. But why did they ask for tea then? Anyway, Violet, eager to show her aptitude in any way possible, revealed her ability to cast spells to Clytemnestra, encircling her temples and fingers in an Eldathean aurora. Fanny then took Sister Janet aside for a conversation before both the cleric and her adopted daughter retired for the evening.Trip to Wakecrest
Increasingly excited by the spirit of adventure attending her introduction to her estranged mother, Violet asked if she could come along to Gavinus' investiture celebration in the Tenth area of the Wandering City. She delighted in the shopping, socializing and the exotic fashions with which she got to experiment. The proprietress of the Jolie Jupe, Signe Browne, offered her the outfit gratis along with a position on the catwalk for the spring collection but was politely refused on the latter point. Browne cautioned Violet against signing with anyone else, particularly Maisie Courtesy. From there, the party proceeded to the Ambush at Commissioner's Hall, where Violet was possessed by Azas in a successful attempt to incapacitate Fanny, witnessed the attempted murder of Beulah, tried to mitigate the same by casting a weak healing spell on her, and was promptly clobbered by Yorick, who sent her limp form unprotected down a flight of stairs with the force of his shield. Beulah returned the favour by reviving Violet, and the lot of them beat a hasty retreat. Violet spent the ride home withdrawn and shaken, with a newly visceral sense of the jeopardy in which she was living and a pretty massive concussion.
