The Portavian Quarter
Not an official borough of Wandering City, the term is sometimes used to describe this loose configuration of middle- and lower-class housing and small business populated by humans that do not fit in comfortably in the Corran or Tenth neighbourhoods. Only a slim plurality of them actually hail from any location that could be identified as being within the Portavian Accord.
Comprised of Crackclaw, Gossage, Red Glory, the Freaks' Quarter and some other neighbourhoods that might or might not deserve names of their own, this area is downright suburban. Families are raised here in relative comfort and security, wedged between the wealth of the Port Metro and the good governance of the Halfling community of Chelsea. It is a desirable and comfortable community, and for that reason has been almost entirely bought up by Hobbits over the past 15 years.
Notable Locations
- Beulah Garland made her stage debut as Bella Garland here, at The Lamplight Inn. It is where she met her future husband, Gavinus Carey.
- Maury's Apartment: Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters's preferred fence, Maury Upswick, resides here. A branded heretic of Tenthun, Maury is an abject hedonist and a profoundly flamboyant character. His compliments are as over-the-top as his toupee, and Fanny finds him just darling. She flashed him once to make up the difference on a pair of stolen silver earrings and he's been putty in her hands for the thirty years since.
- The Portavian Quarter houses the Bard's College, where Beulah Garland trained in her craft, and where Sister Janet's ward appears to be doing the same.
- Gossage is the location of the Port-side Post Office.
- Accessible from a short door in the Lamplight Inn apartment's bathroom is a passage down between the external and internal walls. At the base, around a sharp corner, is an aged access hatch to the largely unexplored Portside Sewer.
