Thanatos

Thanatos is a god of death, specifically, gentle death. He has a plethora of siblings, but is closest to his twin brother, Hypnos. Thanatos is Macaria's patron. The exact details of their agreement are known only to them.

Before/During the Empire

Before the Empire ruled over Obica, Thanatos would come and go as he pleased. He was able to execute his duties and take the dead to the Underworld, and was even worshipped by those who revered the natural order of the world. One such place of worship was the Temple of Thanatos located in the Hollylin Woods. The Empire, in an effort to control all aspects of magic as well as life and death, built towers which housed large Crystals. These towers created a barrier, keeping Thanatos from the continent of Obica.

Attempt to Return

After creating a pact with Macaria, Thanatos asked her to disable the towers that keep him from going to Obica. In his absence, the balance of life and death have come undone, and many dead are not proceeding to the afterlife, leaving many ghosts and undead creatures on the continent.
