Macaria

Macaria is a 17-year old human warlock.

Before Obica

Macaria grew up in a small village with rich, land owning parents, Aidon & Cora, who were also the religious/militia leaders of their community. She had two much older siblings. Meli, her sister, was 13 years her senior. Zephyr, her brother, was 10 years older than her.   Macaria was not the name her parent's gave her.   Macaria was largely ignored through her childhood. Her sister took on the duties of the priesthood and her brother trained the militia, leaving nothing much for her as far as familial duty. She was often compared to her siblings, and considered far less talented & less useful than either of them by her family. The only family member that was kind to Macaria was her Uncle Toumas, who would bring her trinkets from his adventures as a traveling nature cleric.   After overhearing plans to have her married off for politically advantageous purposes, Macaria went to her Thinking Rock in her meadow, where she met and made a deal with her patron, Thanatos. She immediately ran away from home for Obica at her patron's direction.

On Obica

After arriving at Obica, Macaria's main goal was to fulfill the mission her patron gave her: to destroy or deactivate the Empire's towers that were keeping him from being able to visit the continent. His exact nature as a God of Death was not immediately known to Macaria, but she easily accepted her ties to death and her necromantic powers. Others were less excited, and her summoning of Steve made some people nervous.   The death of Mateus was especially devastating for Macaria, as he was her primary father figure, and was always very kind to her. She also blames herself for his and Heferth's deaths, and took up cooking at the The Salt and Plank to try and ease her guilt and help Heather run the business on her own.   Macaria was woefully undereducated about topics concerning romance, dating, and sex. Reef kissed her to demonstrate that kissing can and does happen outside of marriage, and Heather and Madame Sofia gave her a longer and more accurate version of The Talk. Nel told her to head to the farm and just watch the animals.   Macaria is developing a talent for cooking and baking. At first she took on these duties to help Heather after Heferth's death, and then became the cook onboard The Folding Boat. She and Steve bake together, and her cooking is improving. She made the wedding cake for Radha and Rhys' wedding. At the group's new Party House was being constructed in Twin Fingers, she asked for a bakery to be added on so that she could start her own business.

Oreithyia

After acquiring a griffin egg, Macaria hatched it and named the baby griffin Oreithyia, or Orei for short. She learned falconing techniques from Joel and Nel to get her ready for flight and hunting. Eventually, Orei grew big enough to ride, and can now carry Macaria comfortably on her back. They like to hunt together.   Macaria and Orei communicate through a pendant given to her by the All-Tree.

Conflicts

Macaria's primary goal on Obica is to destroy the towers that are keeping her patron Thanatos from entering the continent and bringing natural death back. This is the primary favor that she owes him as part of her pact. Not everyone is always on board with helping her accomplish this goal.   During their first encounter with the Sun Tower Nel'Tari, Godgil and Reef agreed to leave after they were told by the ghost on the second floor that they should not be there. Angry, Macaria aggravated the ghost, and Reef slapped her. After this fight, Macaria shared with her friends why it was important for her to destroy the towers, and they were slightly more agreeable.   For a time, there were questions from Nel and Godgil about the morality of destroying the towers and eliminating the "ghost culture" that rose up in the absence of death, but most of those were set aside after the deaths of Mateus and Heferth Stockwell.   In The Cabal's Stronghold Godgil was able to research the downfall of the Empire, and more information about the Towers along the coast. According to his research, these towers were made to keep some kind of evil force locked in, rather than keep other deities out. He wants to continue his research in the Clovus Waste before disabling any more of the towers. This discovery has also caused him to doubt that Macaria's patron Thanatos is who he says he is, and may be a more malevolent force.   Macaria, after visiting with Thanatos, disagrees with Godgil, and insists that the towers be brought down anyway. She tries to get away on her own, but ends up fighting with Tari and breaking the Hall & Boats by placing it in her Bag of Holding. In the process she also traps herself on the Astral Plane with Orei. Because her friends are all mad at her from their recent argument and breaking their primary transportation, they decide not to rescue her, and leave her to find a way back on her own.   After retunring from the Astral Plane, Macaria attempted to meet up with her companions, but after Godgil attempted to kill her on when she approached, she disappeared and was not seen again.
