Elmira V

Elmira V Orentalem was empress of the Aurean Empire from 5028-5040 AY. She was born Calthia Orentalem in the imperial palace in Aureapolis in 4990 AY. A devotee of Endil, she took the regnal name Elmira after Elmira I due to their shared enjoyment of learning. She was the older of two identical twins, and eventually developed a poor relationship with her younger sister, Nalen, as the latter believed she would do a better job as empress.   Throughout her reign she was a major supporter of the empires libraries and universities, and commisioned many great works on geography, biology, and history. Of particular note, at the end of her life she was involved in the planning of the first census since the empire's collapse over two hundred years prior, though after her death this was not carried out by her son, Andrasius IV. She was, however, criticised for not paying as much attention to other area's of her rule, and for the great amount of time spent in her later reign writing a series of books about the empire's geography. Her lack of attention to military affairs in particular, especially in relation to the The Southern Passes, generated a lot of dissent, including from her sister and her eldest son.
