Magic
Magic is one of the primal forces of the universe.
Magic, as it is used by sapient species, is typically divided into three categories: wild magic, inherent magic, and raw magic.
Wild or natural magic is the magic present in the natural world, sometimes also called background magic. Magical practicioners may tap into it, in extreme need, but this is generally frowned on, as it can cause damage to the natural world if the magic is depleted. For this reason, many magical traditions, such as Druids, cultivate areas of very high natural magic which can be drawn on without causing harm, such as Nemetons.
Inherent magic is the magic possessed by supernatural creatures such as Shifters. Its use is instinctual, and it cannot usually be bent to any other end - a werewolf could not use the magic which allows them to shift to perform a spell, for example. Most creatures who possess inherent magic find it difficult or impossible to perform magical spells and rituals, as it requires learning to sepperate out their inherent magic from the magic they are using for the spell. Additionally, they are usually required to draw on wild magic if they wish to do so, since their own natural magic cannot be reshaped.
Raw magic is the magic of Humans. It is inherent to them, and although some humans have more, or have minds which more easily learn to utilize it, all humans have at least some. It is called raw magic because unlike inherent magic, it has no built-in purpose, and as such can be used for any task the practitioner has the skill or imagination to attempt.
Different cultures around the world have radically different approaches to accessing and performing magic, but they are all accessing the same primal force.
