Oak Creek Massacre
On the evening of the 13th February 1943, rioting broke out at the Oak Creek Relocation Centre in Beacon County, California. An outbreak of viral pneumonia had hit the camp, killing many of the prisoners, including some young children.
Yukimura Noshiko and Rhys Maxon uncovered evidence that the medecines intended to treat the outbreak had been sold on the black market by the camp's head doctor, allowing the disease to spread for more rapidly, and kill far more people, than should have been the case.
Incensed by this callousness, the prisoners confronted the administration, demanding the doctor be help accountible for his actions. A fight broke out between the guards and prisoners, during which Ito Satomi was pistol-whipped, causing her to lose control and throw a molotov cocktail made by the father of one of the dead children at the guards, killing Corporal Maxon, who was trying to negatiate a peaceful resolution.
In response, the guards opened fire on the protestors, who were completely unarmed. Exact fatalities are unknown.
Noshiko, badly injured in the fight and lacking the magical power to avenge her lover herself, prayed for Kitsune-tsuki, resulting in The Nogitsune possessing Maxon's corpse, and slaughtering all but a handful of the survivors.
Believing the slaughter was the result of the guard's violent retaliation to the protestors, the U.S. Government covered up the massacre, and the existence of the camp at Oak Creek. The dead were listed as having died of natural causes at Tule Lake Relocation Center, or as having died in action. All records of the camp remain sealed.
