Yakan
Yakan, also called nogitsune, are one of the two classification of Kitsune. The name is usually translated as Bad Foxes, or Wild Foxes.
Despite the name Bad Foxes, Yakan are not inherently evil, but they are selfish, acting according to their own will without consideration for the impact on others. Higher ranked Yakan are more likely to be actively malicious.
Unlike Zenko, Yakan are not divided into subtypes, because they can learn a variety of abilities regardless of their colour. The majority of Yakan are red-furred foxes, and their foxfire is similar to real fire, including setting light to things it touches.
In addition to the more general kitsune abilities such as creating foxfire, limited immortality, enhanced speed and agility, shapeshifting, accelerated healing, and the ability to summon Oni, Yakan may learn a variety of other abilities according to personal preference, including the abilities of different Zenko subtypes, the ability to absorb or feed on pain or negative emotions, the ability to create illusions, pyrokinesis, and the ability to possess humans without attainking the rank of Tenko.
Yakan dislike bright light. Some breeds of dog can recognise them, particularly Shiba Inu, Hokkaido Inu, and the Chin, even when they are disguised or possessing a human, and many myths involve Yakan revealing their true form when they are startled by a barking dog.
