Gemini Cathedral

A structure to rival the imperial palace, the Gemini Cathedral looms over the second tier of Jos'Dalkar with its dozens of massive dark granite towers and two brilliant white spires. The imposing building is most often described as resembling a forest of stalagmites with a pair of brilliant crystals nestled amongst them.

Purpose / Function

The heart of the Church of the Geminate, the cathedral is the only building in the Dalkori Empire which can rival the imperial palace. It is the center of worship of the twin gods, Jos'Dar and Jos'Nala and home to most of it's most sacred relics.   The cathedral is also home to the head of the church, the Archpriest of the Geminate, and many priests from the upper echelon of the faith.

Alterations

The cathedral was originally conceived as a sanctuary with a crypt beneath. Over the years it has grown substantially as more and more wings and other such additions have been added to accommodate the growing church and its growing influence in society.

Architecture

Crafted primarily from stone mined from the cliffsides of The Rift directly adjacent to Jos'Dalkar, the cathedral is ominous in appearance with its primary dark black exteror. The most prominent two spires are a pair of bright spots in what is otherwise a forest of black granite towers, spiraling towards the sky. The two white crystal spires are supposed to represent the twins and are said to be crafted from stones recovered from the ruins of The Conclave.   No single architect could ever claim the cathedral as their own, and due to its rambling and somewhat organic appearance it is unlikely any would try.

History

Construction began a mere 64 years after the Sundering and the originally planned cathedral was completed in approximately 50 years. Legend has it that the construction could have been completed in half the time but was frequently stalled due to strange occurrences in the lower levels of the newly prepared crypts.   The first major addition to the cathedral was three new spires atop a large new wing which was to house the Archpriest of the Geminate. This addition began around 600AS and was said to have taken just 10 years to complete.   Several more wings have been added over the years and some have even been abandoned or demolished as the priests played political games with one another.   The cathedral has seen no new construction in the last century.
