Slaveresmåtei
The Way of Slaves
The Slaveresmåtei is Seclora's primary overland trade route. It was built by Barnema Trade Company to complement the Tjenerenssjøvei and interconnect the continent's coastal and rural population.

Architecture
The Slaveresmåtei is typically a 10 ft wide roadway with 5 ft wide footpaths on either side. The road surface is generally paved will large flat stones atop a packed fill of small stones and is typically slightly sloped to keep water from pooling on the surface. Typically 10-20 ft to either side of the road is cleared of trees, bushes, and large rocks. In low-lying areas and wetlands, the road surface is made of semi-decomposed logs that may occasionally be overlain with sawn planks to smooth out the road surface.
History
Originally Seclora was covered by a network of independent paths created by generations of nomadic and hunter-gatherer activity. As civilization grew and interspecies trade increased, one main route emerged from the plethora of trackways.
The local populace would eventually come to clear brush, remove large rocks, and fall trees to improve the route's navigability. Log road causeways through wetlands and low lying areas were the first significant developments to the road structure.
After formation of the Barnema Trade Company in western Seclora, the current highway was constructed using slave labour and local materials. The roadway was expanded several times as sea exports along the Tjenerenssjøvei repeatedly shifted eastward. Each subsequent city-states desired to be joined by the Slaveresmåtei overland as well. Ultimately the roadway reached Winham and effectively interconnected the "civilized" portion of Seclora (refer to Denizens of the World).
