Barnema Trade Company

The Barnema Trade Company is the primary (some say sole) business for transporting trade goods among the city-states of Seclora and exporting trade goods from the continent.   The company was originally established by three city-states in western Seclora: Dverghjem, Helsoynes, and Hogeve to support specialization of their respective local industries.   Through a combination of civic sanctions, organizational pragmatism, and an endless funnel of slaves, the Barnema Trade Company quickly achieved its mandate by:
  • centralizing all naval trade under one banner, and
  • redistributing resources between the cities effectively and efficiently.
The exceptional success of the venture resulted in growth of the Company's mandate. With new goals involving overland trade and exportation in hand, the Company built the first trade highway between the three city-states and started shipping goods to eastern Seclora. Along the fingertips of these burgeoning trade routes, now named Slaveresmåtei and Tjenerenssjøvei, spread economic blessing, elitism, civil uprising, and mass enslavement.

History

Shortly after slavery emerged in Helsoynes, the leaders of Dverghjem, Helsoynes, and Hogeve sanctioned the formation of the Barnema Trade Company. Its initial mandate was simply to redistribute resources between the three cities to promote specialization of local industry.   As the region's prosperity increased so did the monopoly's mandate, which grew to:
  1. Redistribute resources to promote specialization of local industry
  2. Build a trade highway between the three cities
  3. Aggregate surplus goods for export eastward
At first, exports were shipped to Fellistad but supply soon exceeded demand so traders pressed onward to Ipodoyra. Again the market flooded until, eventually, Winham was established as the fulcrum for business as the thoroughfare to Baford, Marhelbore, and, to a lesser extent, Kinhambe.   Fiscal prosperity followed wherever the Company established its exports. The elitist culture of Helsoynes quickly infected the minds of each city's population. Initial outbursts of civic in-fighting were as predictable and the mass enslavement that inevitably followed.   Once the highway between Dverghjem, Helsoynes, and Hogeve was complete, the Company simply continued construction. Each mile another link forged in the chain connecting the greedy leaders of each subsequent city-state.   Eventually the Company functionally controlled the majority of Seclora and its leadership relocated to Winham.
