Session II: Shadow's Cast Report
General Summary
In the wake of the fateful "Evening of the Cards", Dim, Dark, Hazy & Associates began to regroup. Eager to return some semblance of normality, they opted to move ahead with the opening of the Holy Grale.
After checking on Rex's resurrection process, the group turned to provisioning for the opening. They searched the Bon Venon Markets for their supplies, each settling on an artificed ring for their future endeavors in addition to the supplies needed for the Grale.
The opening of the Grale was a rousing success. Even in the early light, when the other taverns in the city are quiet, the Grale was bustling with commotion. Word of the project had spread, bringing patrons from all over the city and beyond. One such patron was Jofrid, a dwarf native to Kjallaksholl. She had come in service of a local noble, Lord Rodhric. Noticing her high status, the new tavern owners gave her the royal treatment, offering her and her Lord, who was to follow the next day.
The fullness of the tavern was not all as it seemed, however. In conversing to with the other patrons, over the course of the day, the party discovered that they were being blamed for the appearance of the Black Tree in the nearby square and that many of the local patrons were there as gawkers, coming to see who the mysterious owners of the new tavern in town were, and why they tree might have been planted. Upon learning this, DDH&A's efforts to destroy the tree redoubled. Oksana continued to attempt to cut it down, even going so far as to offer a reward for the soul that could. Others in the party attempted to magically uproot or cut the tree, but it seemed that every attempt to damage it with magic was met with only the magic being absorbed into the tree itself. That included the Opal that had previously been stuck in Velalinnwen's hand, recently removed by Gaia. The group ruminated on the developments for the evening, eventually drifting off into slumber.
They woke to a grand rumbling in the Grale. Wolf dashed about, peering seemingly at mundane areas of the tavern in wide-eyed astonishment. When the group gathered on the top floor, a massive change had apparently taken place to the building. Where there was once roof, there was now Deck. Where there was chimney, there was - well, still chimney - but it had been joined by masts and sails. Wolf explained to the group that his Wish had been granted. The Grale had been raised - It was now a full-rigged Mage-o-War.
The tavern rose out of the ground, a hole in the earth left in its place, giving the crew a good look at the changes below. Where the whitestone foundation had barely peeked out of the ground, it now formed the hull of the ship to the "waterline", the remainder of the wood of the exterior curving upward toward the deck. The interiors had shifted slightly to accommodate the new shape of the layout but had stayed otherwise the same. That included, to Oksana's delight, the brewing equipment in the basement. Wolf, seeming to intrinsically understand the controls of the ship, steered it toward the river, setting the tavern down in the water near a few bridges. Ropes were cast and a plank set to bridge the gap to a street running along the river.
Realizing the potential of an airborne tavern, DDH&A mobilized, attempting to hire staff that will travel with the Holy Grale. Traveling to the Heroes' Spear, Wolf found a willing employee named Elle. Velalinnwen traveled to the Badger and Bard, finding a slightly less willing Sahone, but she managed to talk him into it anyway.
When they returned, Lord Rodhric had joined them on the ship, having come to see the newest business in town. He was fascinated at the oddness of the ship, deciding to offer the group a job in tracking down a family heirloom, stolen from him by an organization known as the Obsidian Syndicate.
The newly mobile Holy Grale gives Dim, Dark, Hazy & Associates the freedom of travel, but having taken the job of hunting a thieves guild, will they be able to use it to their benefit, or will the Obsidian Syndicate see them coming while they wait in the shadows?
Only time will tell...
