Greenhouses
Greenhouses are some of the most important buildings found throughout the entirety of the frozen wilderness, with hundreds upon hundreds of them set up throughout the various groups and towns that exist. Serving as a place for people to be able to grow fruits and vegetables year-round despite the intense cold, a sufficiently sized greenhouse serves as a place for some people to be able to hold animals in. People in The Refounded who grow these various crops tend to make a fair bit of Cigarettes to spend.
Purpose / Function
Greenhouses serve as specialized farms that hold in whatever sunlight and heat that can be contained, able to hold large amounts of crops. The bigger the greenhouse, the more viable they are to a group of people's survival. These buildings are kept warm by Greenhouse Managers, who work year-round with volunteers to make sure that the glass has no cracks on it, the Flame Edenite-based heaters are sufficiently supplied and functional, the area is well ventilated, and that the vegetables grown are nice and healthy.
Architecture
Along with using existing greenhouses that are made of steel and glass planes covered in a thin; transparent mesh that keeps the heat inside, some people have opted to take empty homes and buildings and convert them to greenhouses, replacing the ceilings and some walls with glass that was made in a smelter after digging up large loads of sand and melting it down into liquid glass. This can result in various oddly-shaped and different greenhouses, all of which have floors completely covered in dirt with rows upon rows of potted plants. For Greenhouses that are sufficiently sized, such as former barns that have been modified to replace a wall with glass, they can serve as places to keep whatever animals that have been saved from the destruction caused from World War III.
Commonly, in order to ensure maximum efficiency with keeping heat within the greenhouse, methods are taken to further insulate the building, such as putting bubble-wrap over the windows; covering the southern-facing interior side of the greenhouse with tin, and placing more Edenite heaters into a room connected to the main part of the greenhouse. Oftentimes, people will opt to construct greenhouses in underground areas or in basements, allowing whatever little heat remains underground to give the greenhouse a little boost. A few people have opted to have a greenhouse built into their homes, small enough to be able to grow their own crops if they wish.
