Aibel

Aibel is a minor goddess of the Wild Dynasty, associated with peace, protection, and charity.   Aibel is the youngest daughter of Brigid. She was born when Brigid caught her own reflection in a master-forged mithril shield carried by one of her sworn paladins, fell in love with the sight, and bade the world to make this vision permanent. Thus, she is typically depicted as resembling Brigid closely, but significantly smaller in stature and with a blue-green tint to her skin and hair.   As the youngest of the Wild Dynasty gods, she is an oft-neglected goddess. Legends say that Brigid and the other primary gods of the Wild Dynasty paid her little mind as she grew, concerned as they were with ruling the Age of Anxiety (see: Ages of History) and carrying out their mission to keep mortals from upsetting the balance of their plane. Young Aibel came into her powers still alone and forgotten, wandering both Arborea and the Material Plane nearly unseen.   As the Gaping Hunger approached late in the age, she could no longer bear seeing the suffering of mortals. She was young and unassuming, and so her godly power was limited in scope; nevertheless, she took two tribes under her protection, one Human and one Elf. She nudged them towards strategies that would help them survive the harsh winters and the meager harvests. The humans grew short, stout, and hardy; the elves descended from their boats and relied more and more on the bounty of the deep sea. Eventually, these evolved into Halfling and Sea Elf clans beneath her eye, and thrived despite the unforgiving lands.   Aibel is still rarely worshipped outside these two tribes, and little-known beyond them, even among scholars and priests of the Wild Dynasty. Still, she remains fairly popular as a personal god for halflings and sea elves, despite the relative lack of organized temples or worship traditions devoted exclusively to her. Her symbols are the clam shell, the cicada, and the willow tree.
