Domovoi

The domovoi (singular: domovik) is a type of Fey creature that makes its home primarily on the Material Plane inside objects held or carried by Humanoid travelers, though they are sometimes also seen in Eladrin vllages. They are particularly common among the more nomadic Orokhim communities.
Domovoi are thought to be related to the Redcap, though they tend to be much more benevolent. As thanks for carrying them safely to different destinations, they like to clean and organize their hosts' possessions, and expel anything potentially cursed or otherwise harmful from their bags.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Domovoi are tiny furry creatures roughly the size of two apples. Their true form resembles an ape with unusually large eyes and hair shaped somewhat like a beard and moustache. However, this form is almost never seen by mortal eyes, as they can turn invisible at will and often prefer to remain invisible if they fear they are being observed.
Domovoi do not require air. They can live inside a tightly packed suitcase or even a Bag of Holding indefinitely.

Genetics and Reproduction

Domovoi enjoy traveling with humanoids so that they can easily spread seeds across the land. Under a full moon, these seeds blossom into more domovoi.

Growth Rate & Stages

From its seed stage, a domovik may take up to a month to grow, depending on the cycle of the moon. After that, juvenile domovoi must either gather up morning dew and tree sap to reach their full size, or wait until their first rainfall. Once they absorb at least a pint of water,

Dietary Needs and Habits

Domovoi eat colors. Their favorite foods are red and blue. It is Orokhim tradition to make a bundle of red and blue cloth or thread before a long journey as an offering; it is also considered bad luck to make important weavings only out of red and blue. A domovik cannot survive in the Winter Court due to the lack of color.

Domestication

Sometimes, travelers who believe they carry domovoi will try to domesticate domovoi seedlings by pouring water, tea, or beer around their campsite after a full moon. Beer-fed domovoi, in particular, can be mischevious; they tend to take interesting baubles and trinkets from one bag to another.

Average Intelligence

Domovoi have roughly the intelligence of seagulls. They communicate via a rudimentary series of honks, squeaks, and clicks.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The domovoi can detect poison or curses via their extraordinary sense of smell. If they find something potentially harmful to their carrier's well-being within their bag, they will eject it from the bag at the first possible opportunity where they will not be spotted.
