Ettelane

Ettelane is the capital of the Northern Duchy of the Dreibach Empire. It sits on the shores of Lake Artemis, the source of the Lorem River. Ettelane is best-known as the headquarters of the Convocation of Wands. They host the Maginus Convention each May and November, drawing hundreds of wizards from across Belcantas (though attendance is poorer in November, due to Ettelane's harsh winters).

Demographics

As the last major settlement of Dreibach south of its border with Erdelan, Ettelane has a significant Dwarven population within its Human majority.

Points of interest

The August Spire, headquarters of the Convocation of Wands, is the most iconic structure in the town. It is built of red sandstone, covered in ivy and adorned with many gargoyles. It stands 365 feet tall, making it the third-tallest building in the known world (after the Taras Telumë and the Prime Sarastran Temple). In the courtyard outside the Spire—the central plaza known as the Tenserian Square—sits a seven-foot-tall hematite crystal known as the August Prism. Sages carefully placed the stone at the intersection of two ley lines in order to focus and concentrate their power, magnifying the magic within the city (and particularly within the Spire). The shores of Lake Artemis are lined with homes and businesses, and the lake serves as a hub of commerce and recreation throughout the year. Fishing on the lake is a major industry and source of food. Swimming is a popular activity in the hottest summer months, and ice skating and ice fishing are beloved winter traditions.
