Hall of the Daemon Ascendant
The Hall of the Daemon Ascendant is a historic ampitheater and palace in Dancamort that sits at the heart of Styx Hollow. It holds the primary public throne room for the Rex Terrestrus, the king or queen representing Hadesia on the Olympian Throne.
This throne room is situated on a balcony overlooking an enormous main amphitheater that seats 40,000 spectators. When it is not crowded for announcements from the king and queen, it is primarily used as a venue for sporting events (such as the Cerberus Races), performances, festivals, and political proclamations and debates. Public executions and ritual sacrifices are also held here, at midnight on the new moon of every month, in an elaborate ceremony known as the Blood Moon's Nexus.
All events at the hall are run, coordinated, and emceed by the Master of Rituals, a position appointed directly by the Rex Terrestrus. This person must have incredible charisma and public speaking abilities, as well as the organizational skills necessary to oversee the hectic calendar of events hosted at the Hall each year. They are typically a highly skilled Bard who can use enchantment, illusion, and even divine magic to aid in their many duties.
Architecture
The Hall of the Daemon Ascendant is considered one of the great wonders of Age of Complexity architecture, due to the extraordinary size of its audience stands and the flexibility and complexity of its arena-level structures. It contains four separate levels of concourses, where guests can enter, congregate, and purchase snacks and souvenirs from the vendors that line the halls. The arena level is equipped with a number of hydraulic controls that allow for the raising and lowering of various platforms to accommodate different types of stages, the release of beasts and monstrosities from otherwise-fortified cells within the lower structures, and even the opening of floodgates for simulated naval battles within the arena.
History
The Hall of the Daemon Ascendant was built on the legendary site where Hades allowed the "daemon ascendant" from the Legend of the Daemon Ascendant to pass through to the Material Plane. It was one of the first two buildings constructed upon Dancamort's founding, alongside the Hadesian Basilica. Its construction was planned by the Celestial Courts, directed by angels from Mount Celestia and devils from the realms of Hades, and carried out by the modrons of Mechanus. Unlike the other two structures built beside it (namely, the Hadesian Basilica and The Wall), it took several decades to fully finish construction due to the complexity of the designers' vision for its abilities. It has been modified several times, in keeping with the Dancamortian Charter's mandate that the city pursue its maximum capacity for "ghévamat anu xháramat" (Celestial for "sustenance and joy").
Tourism
The sporting events, gladiator battles, and other festivities held at the Hall are a must-see for tourists to Dancamort. When it is filled to capacity during events like the grand gladiator tournament at the fall equinox, the Hall itself briefly becomes the fifth-largest city in the Aquatic Kingdoms (after Urbana al-Sona, Cape Hildegard, Dancamort, and Port Nabucco).
