Vohoni

In Nuél-orokh society, a Vohoni is a philosopher-poet dedicated to protecting and honoring the legacy of the past and the worship of Prometheus. They use divination magic to recover memories from their long-lost ancestors and share those memories with their communities in weavings, poetry, and songs.

Duties

The sacred duty of a Vohoni is to remember the people and events that would otherwise have been erased by cruelty or tragedy. Many Vohonim focus in particular on remembering the victims of The Extinguishing.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Vohoni combine the ordinary duties of a Promethean priest (leading group discussions and weaving sessions, tending to ceremonial flames, performing the call to worship, etc.) with unique divination rituals and frequent public recitations.

History

The name "Vohoni" (Orokhimshe for "of the light") comes from the surname taken by the Five Sisters of Fire, the leaders of the first nuél-orokh clans appointed by Ilga the Brave. Word of their deaths in The Extinguishing first reached the isolated clans in the Blue Mountains because of the Diviner Yazgash. She dedicated the rest of her career to tracking news of the wars and memorializing the slain nuél-orokhim. Though she herself never claimed the title, her followers informally called themselves the Vohonim.
