Ashina River
The Ashina River is one of the longest and most historically significant rivers in Rodinia, spanning from the Karak Mountains in the west to the northeast, where it flows into the sea. As it travels across the continent, it nourishes the lands and civilizations of Outremer, Hispania, the Province of Jib, Kingdom of Gaelem, the Principality of Banat, and The Kingdom of Vermilla. Its northern mouth exits through the Morklands in Banat, while the southern branch splits in Vermilla, flowing westward into the Crackle Sea. This river is not only a natural boundary and trade route but a vital link binding these nations together.
The Ashina’s strategic importance is immense, serving as both a major trade route and a natural line of defense. Ships and barges ply its waters, facilitating swift movement of people, goods, and messages across the continent. It also serves as a natural fortress, and historically, many invasions were thwarted at its banks. During the Great War of Undeath and the Great Demon Invasion, the river proved instrumental in halting the advance of hostile forces, becoming a rallying line where defenders mounted crucial victories.
In ancient times, the Ashina was even longer, originating from the now-lost Mt. Gorgoroth before it erupted. This ancient riverbed extended north through the Gobi Rainforest to the eastern sea, shaping the continent’s early civilizations and trade routes.
The Ashina derives its name from the powerful Ashina tribe, an ancient civilization that dominated the Great Narnen Plains for millennia. The tribe’s strength was rooted in their control over the river’s headwaters, shaping early commerce, agriculture, and culture in the region. Today, the Ashina continues to be a cultural and economic artery, touching many of Rodinia’s critical areas, including the Great Narnen Plains, the Morklands, Eustria, and the west of the Manalands.
