The Black Rebellion was a pivotal and tumultuous period in the history of the Kingdom of Astaroth, marking the end of its ancient monarchy and the rise of a new regime. It was a time of intense strife and upheaval, triggered by the erratic and tyrannical rule of King Exarellion, known as the "White Lunatic."

The Conflict

Prelude

In the later years of King Exarellion Monte Luther Astaroth's reign, his once formidable rule began to unravel. Initially, his iron-fisted leadership had subdued dissent and maintained control over the kingdom, but as time passed, his governance became increasingly erratic and despotic. Exarellion's reign was marked by absurd and reckless decisions, including launching numerous costly wars against The Kingdom of Vermilla, Hispania and The Empire of Man.

His war on the Kingdom of Gaelem, for instance, was disastrously executed, with his forces suffering severe losses in the treacherous Marshes of Death. Similarly, his campaigns against Vermilla and Hispania, although partially successful, drained the kingdom's resources and further strained its military and economic stability. The king's delusions of grandeur and self-destructive policies exacerbated the suffering of his people and the deterioration of the kingdom.

Deployment

The Black Rebellion began as a response to King Exarellion's disastrous rule. The rebellion was spearheaded by a coalition of disgruntled generals, nobles, and military leaders who had grown increasingly disillusioned with the king’s madness and the dire state of the kingdom. These rebels, primarily stationed on the eastern front where they had endured the brunt of Exarellion’s military failures, sought to overthrow the king and restore stability to Astaroth.

The conflict was marked by intense battles and shifting alliances as the rebellion gained momentum. The king's forces, although still formidable, struggled to counter the coordinated efforts of the rebels. The rebellion gained significant traction when a general from the western front, originally loyal to the king, switched allegiances. This general, Mordred, was initially tasked with quelling the uprising but instead joined the rebels and played a crucial role in their success.

The climax of the Black Rebellion came with a dramatic and decisive confrontation in the capital. Mordred, leading the rebel forces, launched a surprise assault on the city, overcoming the king's defenses and seizing control. In a ruthless and decisive act, Mordred had King Exarellion and his entire family executed, bringing an end to House Astaroth. With the old regime overthrown, Mordred proclaimed himself King Mordred, establishing a new order and marking the birth of the Kingdom of Mordred. The execution of the former royal family and the end of the kingdom's ancient lineage was both a symbol of liberation from tyrannical rule and a harbinger of the dramatic changes to come.

The Black Rebellion was a defining moment in Astaroth's history, leading to the dissolution of the once-mighty kingdom and the emergence of Mordred as its successor.
