Forts Bewaken & Bewaren

Besides the two forts outside of Margraten, there is no better defended area in all of Frisia. These forts straddle the southern edge of the Falkengipfels and slightly on to the Doden Plains. The Hessans in the Burggraftshaft of Kernig would say these forts encroach into the Wetteran Stadts, while the Frisians would disagree. They are hotly contested and, while decades have gone by without a major incident at the forts, in the past, large battles have been fought over them. On one occasion, Fort Bewaken was occupied by Hessans from Wetterau.

Demographics

The forts are manned by soldiers and anyone who is not a soldier is there to support the forts and the soldiers.

Defences

The forts boast thirty cannons each and each has a full battalion of well drilled Frisian soldiers.

Geography

Fort Bewaken lies right on the main road going across the Doden Plains. This means, of the two forts, Bewaken is the most well traveled. It sits on a spit of steep rock overlooking the road and is only accessible from one thin path up the side.   Fort Bewaren has an added layer of defense being tucked on a hill between the Holzekohlwald and the Nord Berkwoud.
