Aran Anadil

The city of Aran Anadil was originally settled by a group of Elf mages and is ruled by a meritocratic board, comprised of the acclaimed senior members of each profession. To be accorded the rank of "Master" in a given field is not a guarantee of a seat upon the Council. A dozen recognized masters of stonecrafting or woodworking may exist at any given time, but only the most talented and skilful are given the right to speak for the interests of their profession.   While there is no formal division between Wood and High Elves in Aran Anadil, there is a certain cultural division: the former prefer to live in the upper city, built among the treetop canopies, while the latter lives in the lower city, upon the ground. The lands around and beneath Aran Anadil also support a significant Dwarf minority   Elf children are formally educated beginning at age 20 until age 80; should they wish, education may continue past that point on an elective basis. It is accepted that, at this age, apprenticeships may be formalized. That said, informal apprenticeships may begin as young as 70, and many youths take up duties in seasonal labour to begin earning pocket money at this stage.   At age 100, (though, in rare cases, earlier) more affluent (or annoying) members of elven society may partake of an Adventure, similar in concept to a Grand Sneer or Overseas Experience in celebration of their new adulthood before taking up the responsibilities therein. This occasionally involves taking up posts or courses of study at institutions of other races. For those who choose such a path, multiple academic degrees are common.
