Lady Sapphire Thorneheart
Sapphire Thorneheart is the only living Thorneheart family member who had served as the Honeyshore Coven's Coven Leader. She served from year 124 to year 157, and was 34 years old when she assumed the position.

Personal history
As a young girl, Sapphire grew up secure in her position and was eager to fulfil her mother's expectations. However, when her sister Abigail Thorneheart was born, Sapphire's future became less sure, even moreso when her younger sister was confirmed as a witch at the age of seven. Abigail began to show signs of profound magical gifts, but it became clear shortly afterwards that she was uninterested in the coven, and it was only after this that Sapphire was allowed to officially join the coven, putting her trajectory behind by approximately seven years. Sapphire has always resented her sister for this.
At the age of twenty, Sapphire and Victoria Bloodswell became close friends, and when Victoria returned home from school, they became inseperable. While the young women's familys had historically not been friendly, neither took much of an interest in history and Sapphire made her mind up to heal the breach between them both. As they got older, Sapphire fell in love with her best friend but never found the courage to confess her feelings and in year 123, Victoria became engaged to Jun Bloodswell. Sapphire resolved to keep their friendship alive despite this, but when Victoria repeated her request to investigate Emmett Bloodswell's Account, Sapphire became embittered and was convinced Victoria had only been her friend (and had led her on) so that she might win favouritism. From then on, the relationship between the two women disintegrated and the families became more distant than they had ever been.
In the year 149, Abigail's husband Byron Smith passed away. Abigail was newly pregnant with their second child at the time, and Sapphire made plans for her sister to come to Honeyshore after the child's birth. When Sapphire arrived, she found her sister had passed away in childbirth and had left Frigga Thorneheart (who was twelve at the time) and the newly born Leland Thorneheart behind. Sapphire brought the newly orphaned children home and adopted them as her own, and she swore to raise the children into the best witches Honeyshore had ever seen.
During the time she served as Coven Leader, Sapphire was regarded as even-handed and deeply knowledgable. She devoted her life to her coven, and her needs often came second to the needs of the group. Under her leadership, the coven saw some growth in regards to wealth and reputation, but the magical innovation suffered as she was very focussed on networking and social dynamics within the group.
Sapphire specializes in contract magic which is intimately tied to the Thorneheart family's summoning work. She also has expertise in some forms of energy transferral and astrology.

Sapphire has never declared intentions to marry or even take a consort. Despite this, she has a history of falling in love with women including Victoria Bloodswell. Because she has been able to deny her own proclivities, she believes that anyone is able to do so and therefore brushes off her neice's similar predisposition.
Education
Sapphire went to Bluehaven University and studied contract and pact magic with an emphasis on blood magic. She also has expertise in celestial astrology and non-figurative energy transferral theory.
Morality & Philosophy
Sapphire's position is that her wants and needs do not matter when weighed against the coven, and that no one person's needs should outweigh the coven's needs.

Sapphire is Frigga's aunt and also took care of her and Leland Thorneheart after the death of Abigail Thorneheart. Throughout Frigga's upbringing as a witch, Sapphire tried to impress on her a love of the coven, but because Frigga did not want to be the Thorneheart family's heir, she ran away.

Theodore is the main benefactor of the Honeyshore coven, but the two are also good friends having grown up together.
