Bearer
Qualifications
There are no official qualifications required to be a Bearer, but someone must first spend at least a year as a Bringer so that they fully understand the weight of this decision.
Appointment
When someone wants to become a Bearer, they must first discuss it with a Raiser. This conversation serves two purposes;
- To ensure that the person understands the choice they are about to make
- To discuss how and what form of bearer they wish to be
Duties
The primary duty of the Bearer is to bear children, but they have a lot of choice as to how they achieve this. As a Vellikkian, they are hermaphrodites and are able to either reproduce on their own or with a partner. If they choose to do so with a partner, they have full control over who that partner is from amongst the Gifters.
Responsibilities
They are responsible for their health and taking care of themselves as they produce and gestate the child to ensure the best possible chance of a healthy birth.
In the early stages of their pregnancy, they also take on the responsibilty for training those who are just entering the pathway.

I love the fact that they can choose whether or not to partner with a Gifter, and they can choose which Gifter they would like to partner with.
Thank you, me too. The Vellich don't have constructs around gender or sexuality, so it's been interesting to see where their society would place these constructs and where they would be absent.
