Return of the Great Spirit
The Story
It is said that one day the Great Spirit will wander past Vellikka and check in on the wellbeing of the planet and its inhabitants. The Great Spirit is known for wandering and providing gifts, but the Great Spirit does nothing without purpose. There is much that isn't known about what lies beyond the planet amid the stars and other planets which hang overhead, and it is certain that the Great Spirit has far and wide to wander. If the Great Spirit does return, it may be a time of great celebration and joy across Vellikka, or it may be a time of great sadness and desperation. For if the Great Spirit returns it will judge each of us on the kindness we bestow to the planet it gave us and our contribution to society. Those who have lived up to the standards may stay on Vellikka and will continue to look after the planet and keep it company. Those who have not been kind to Vellikka, the Great Spirit will take with them so they may be shown other planets that have not been looked after, and understand the error of their ways. There they will be left to find their own way back to Vellikka.Summary
This story is the Vellich equivalent of the end of world myth. No one knows where it came from, but it clearly owes some of its themes and ideas to the creation myth (Where The Spirits Come From). There are also parts of the Vellich World View scattered throughout.
It has an extremely moralistic perspective, with the punishment for those who do not follow the ideas of looking after the planet and doing their best for their community. It is taught to youngsters with this in mind, but isn't one of the stories which is on a regular rotation with the Storytellers.
"I always find the story of the Great Spirit's return a strange one. Why would the Great Spirit ever return?"
