Qualifications
There are no qualifications required to be a Storyteller, but there are levels of storytelling. To become a Storyteller, one must simply commit themselves to the path.
Career Progression
Someone who chooses the Storyteller path must first learn the stories which are being told. This is the role of Storylearner.
Next they must listen to others for other stories. A good storyteller must not only be able to repeat the stories of other storytellers, but craft their own. This is the role of Storylistener.
Once they have mastered this, they are classed as a Storyteller. They take responsibility for the storytelling for that community.
A Storykeeper takes on responsibility for training Storylearners and helping Storylisteners perfect their craft. They keep the stories flowing from one generation to the next.
Payment & Reimbursement
Storytellers are paid by the support of the community for their efforts.
Perception
Purpose
Storytellers are responsible for sharing the stories of the community. The serve the role of educator, information gatherers and reporters of news. They are also essential to the Ruler to pass on information to the rest of the community.
People might also approach a Storyteller for advice or words of wisdom.
Social Status
They are highly revered within society and are considered an essential part of any community.
History
The role of storyteller was formalised from the oral tradition, as notations are thought to be for things which don't need to be passed down through generations, not things as important as storytelling.
