Dragonborn

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonborn are humanoid creatures with strong draconic features. They stand between 6'2" and 6'8" tall, with muscular, powerful builds. Their skin is covered in fine scales that range in color depending on their draconic ancestry. They have distinctive draconic heads with frills or horns, sharp teeth, and reptilian eyes. While they lack wings or tails, some may have vestigial forms of these features.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragonborn are omnivorous but tend to prefer meat. Their powerful jaws and sharp teeth allow them to consume tougher foods than most humanoids. Some Dragonborn, particularly those of metallic dragon descent, may also consume small amounts of metals or gems to supplement their diet.

Behaviour

Dragonborn are known for their strong sense of honor, loyalty to their clan, and pride in their draconic heritage. They often struggle with balancing their innate draconic tendencies (desire for power, treasure, or dominance) with more humanoid social norms.
They value personal achievement and self-improvement, often setting high standards for themselves and others. Dragonborn society typically emphasizes martial prowess.
Dragonborn can be passionate and quick to anger, but also possess a deep capacity for loyalty and friendship. They often form strong bonds with those who earn their respect, regardless of race.

History

The Dragonborn, known in Draconic as Naknaausthur, emerged during the tumultuous period of the First Dragon War (Vorel Jivarn Vargach). Their origins are directly tied to the dragons' development of shapeshifting abilities, known as Turalisj Ghoros, which dragons used to combat elven magic more effectively.   As the war between dragons and elves prolonged, many dragons found themselves spending extended periods in their shapeshifted forms. This prolonged transformation had unexpected consequences. Some dragons, after maintaining humanoid forms for too long, began to lose their ability to fully revert to their original draconic shape.   Over generations, these changed dragons gave rise to the Dragonborn. Unlike their Half-Dragon cousins, Dragonborn retained stronger draconic features in a predominantly humanoid form. They inherited much of their draconic ancestors' strength, resilience, and innate magical abilities, particularly their breath weapons.   The emergence of Dragonborn coincided with the Great Divide (Malsvir Ghoros), the schism between chromatic and metallic dragons. As a result, Dragonborn found themselves divided along similar lines, often aligning with either chromatic or metallic draconic heritage.   Dragonborn quickly proved their worth in draconic society. Their humanoid forms made them excellent intermediaries between dragons and other races, while their draconic traits ensured their loyalty to their ancient lineage. Many Dragonborn became respected warriors, leaders, and diplomats within draconic realms.   As draconic society evolved, so did the role of Dragonborn. They often served as the public face of draconic interests in mixed-race settlements and played crucial roles in maintaining draconic traditions and knowledge. Some Dragonborn clans established their own communities, blending draconic culture with elements adopted from other races.   The divide between chromatic and metallic heritage continues to influence Dragonborn culture and politics. This often reflects in their scale color, innate abilities, and sometimes in their temperament and worldview. Despite these differences, many Dragonborn see themselves as a unified race, proud of their draconic heritage while forging their own destiny.   Dragonborn society places high value on honor, clan loyalty, and self-improvement. Many Dragonborn dedicate themselves to mastering both martial and magical arts, seeing this as a way to honor their draconic ancestors. The practice of Turalisj Ghoros remains an aspiration for some Dragonborn, who hope to reclaim more of their draconic nature through dedicated study and practice.   Today, Dragonborn stand as living testament to the ancient power of dragons and the complex history of the Dragonkind Era, their very existence a bridge between the world of dragons and the realms of humanoid races.
