Half-Dragon

Basic Information

Anatomy

Half-Dragons are a diverse group, their appearance varying based on their non-dragon parent and draconic ancestry. They typically stand between 5'6" and 7' tall, with muscular builds. Their skin is covered in fine scales, often in colors matching their draconic parent (red, blue, gold, etc.). They may have draconic features such as elongated faces, horns, sharp teeth, and reptilian eyes. Some Half-Dragons possess wings, tails, or other distinct draconic traits.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Omnivorous, with diets influenced by both their draconic and non-dragon heritage. Many Half-Dragons have a preference for meat and may be able to consume substances that would be indigestible or toxic to other races, such as certain metals or gems.

Behaviour

Half-Dragons often struggle with dual natures, balancing the instincts and mindset of their draconic lineage with those of their other heritage. They typically possess a strong sense of pride, a desire for power or recognition, and a fascination with accumulating knowledge or treasure.

Their personalities can vary widely, influenced by their upbringing and the type of dragon they descend from. Those of metallic dragon ancestry might lean towards benevolence and protection, while those of chromatic descent might struggle with more destructive or selfish impulses.

Half-Dragons often feel like outsiders in both draconic and non-draconic societies, leading many to become adventurers, scholars, or to seek out others of mixed heritage.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Half-Dragons typically have enhanced senses compared to their non-dragon parent race. This often includes darkvision, keen hearing, and an acute sense of smell. Some may develop unique sensory abilities based on their specific draconic lineage.

History

Half-Dragons (Thricirlym) emerged during the First Dragon War (Vorel Jivarn Vargach) as a direct result of dragons' experimentation with shapeshifting magic, Turalisj Ghoros. Unlike Dragonborn, Half-Dragons represent a much closer connection to their draconic ancestry.   Half-Dragons are characterized by their imposing physique, being larger and more muscular than both humans and Dragonborn. They possess distinct draconic features, including scales covering much of their bodies, powerful tails, and in some cases, vestigial wings. Their appearance is much more dragon-like compared to Dragonborn, making their draconic heritage unmistakable.   The creation of Half-Dragons was likely an intentional effort by dragons to create powerful offspring that could maintain most of their draconic abilities while still being able to interact with humanoid societies. This resulted in beings of immense strength and innate magical ability, often surpassing Dragonborn in raw power.   During the Great Divide (Malsvir Ghoros), Half-Dragons, due to their closer connection to dragons, often aligned more strongly with their draconic parentage. This made them valuable assets in draconic societies, where they were often revered as direct descendants of dragons.   In draconic hierarchies, Half-Dragons frequently held positions of great importance, serving as elite warriors, powerful mages, or even as representatives of dragon kind in dealings with other races. Their impressive physical presence and undeniable draconic nature made them intimidating figures in both diplomatic and martial roles.   Among other societies, Half-Dragons were often viewed with a mixture of awe and fear. Their power and clear draconic lineage made them formidable allies but also potential threats, leading to complex relationships with non-draconic races.   In the present day, Half-Dragons continue to be rare and impressive figures in the world. Many serve as guardians of draconic lore and interests, while others use their unique status to bridge the gap between dragons and other races. Their stronger connection to their draconic heritage often results in them having more innate magical abilities compared to Dragonborn, particularly in areas related to their draconic ancestry.   The legacy of the chromatic and metallic divide is often more pronounced in Half-Dragons, with their physical characteristics and innate abilities closely tied to their specific draconic parentage. This can lead to significant variations among Half-Dragons, with some exhibiting traits of fire-breathing red dragons, others showing the frost powers of white dragons, and so on. Half-Dragons remain living embodiments of draconic might in a more humanoid form, their very existence a testament to the enduring legacy and power of dragonkind in the world.   Half-Dragons as they are are rare. However, seeing metallic Half-Dragon is for most people once per lifetime experience as they are almost extinct.
