History
The Dragonkind trace their origins to the Dragonkind Era (Jivarn Austhurk), concurrent with the early days of elvenkind. In those ancient times, dragons (arcaniss) were the dominant race on the continent, ruling the skies and lands with their immense power and wisdom.
As elves began to expand following Lolth's departure, tensions arose between the elven and draconic races. This period marked the beginning of the hostility between elves and dragons, known in draconic as "Vignar Malsvir" (The Growing Enmity).
The First Dragon War (Vorel Jivarn Vargach) erupted when elves, utilizing their innate magical abilities, began to challenge draconic dominance. Initially, the dragons found themselves at a disadvantage against elven magic in certain environments. In response, they turned to the magic most natural to them - druidism.
Through druidic practices, dragons learned to shapeshift, taking on forms better suited to combat elves in various terrains. This ability was known as "Turalisj Ghoros" (Form Shifting). However, as the war dragged on, many dragons remained in their altered forms for extended periods, leading to unexpected consequences.
Some dragons, particularly those who spent too long in their shifted forms, began to lose the ability to fully revert to their draconic shape. This gave rise to hybrids between dragons and bipedal creatures, known as "Tiurlikear" (Changed Ones). A distinction emerged between chromatic and metallic dragons, with metallic dragons displaying a greater affinity for magic and shapeshifting.
Seeking to understand their elven foes, dragons sent their metallic kin as envoys. The metallic dragons, or "Irlym Arcaniss", discovered that the elves were not inherently evil, but rather both races viewed each other as threats due to misunderstanding.
The metallic dragons proposed peace and coexistence, which the elves accepted. However, the chromatic dragons, or "Svent Arcaniss", rejected this notion, believing in their right to dominance and seeking to eradicate the elves. This started time known as The Great Divide (Malsvir Ghoros)
This schism led to the metallic dragons allying with the elves, refusing to participate in the slaughter of innocents. Faced with this united front, the chromatic dragons retreated, facing certain defeat.
Dragons who remained too long in their humanoid forms during this conflict permanently lost the ability to fully transform back into dragons. Over time, they became increasingly bipedal, losing more of their draconic features. This process gave rise to two new races:
During the war, dragons sought to create smaller, more numerous allies to use in horde-battle tactics. Using their blood and magic, they created kobolds, small draconic creatures known as "Irlymkovor" (Little Kin). While not as powerful as their creators, kobolds proved useful in large numbers and for their unwavering loyalty to dragonkind.
The division between chromatic and metallic dragons persists to this day, shaping much of draconic society and politics. Dragonborn, half-dragons, and kobolds often align themselves based on their draconic heritage, creating a complex social structure within the Dragonkind.
The ability to shapeshift remains a revered skill among dragons, with many dedicating centuries to mastering the art of Turalisj Ghoros. This practice has led to dragons taking on various roles in societies across the world, sometimes hidden in plain sight.

Dragons who remained too long in their humanoid forms during this conflict permanently lost the ability to fully transform back into dragons. Over time, they became increasingly bipedal, losing more of their draconic features. This process gave rise to two new races:
- Dragonborn (Naknaausthur): Those who retained strong draconic features but in a humanoid form.
- Half-Dragons (Thricirlym): Beings with a more even mix of draconic and humanoid traits.
- Wyverns (Ghorirlym) and Drakes (Thricir): These creatures resulted from dragons who "devolved" due to prolonged shapeshifting, losing limbs or wings in the process.
- Pseudodragons (Ssivrirlikovor): An unexpected outcome of elven attempts to create dragons through magic, resulting in small, intelligent draconic familiars.
