Looking for My Servant, Part 3: To Hell and Back Again... Again
General Summary
With preparations finally complete, Nihilus, Runa, Grud, and Zabur finally teleported their way to Hell, choosing specifically to head to the ninth circle of hell Nessus in hopes of finding out what contract Diavolo had and exploiting the contract Nihilus had made with the devil worshipper for a favor to barter for the release of his soul. Upon arrival, they were met with a craggy hellscape that smelled of sulfur. Grud noted the river Styx above them trickling across the ceiling of this layer of hell, suggesting the party follow it to find the great city Asmodeus called home. After surviving through the air around them spontaneously combusting the party entered a snowy region, whose heavy snow and chilling winds made flight hard but not impossible. While they weathered the storm the party encountered a flight of Erinyes. With some convincing, the group of fallen angels was convinced to trade small tidbits of information in exchange for magical items from the party. A pile of scrolls later the groups parted ways, the party continuing to follow the flow of the river above them. Not long after their encounter though fatigue began to set in, and the party chose to take some time to rest. Thankfully Grud had a magical fortress tower he could drop for easy shelter from the elements.
While the party slept, soft scratching could be heard at the walls of the tower. Runa and Zabur listened in worried silence during their watch, but thankfully nothing ever got in. Once the party woke up Grud went out to inspect his tower, finding only cosmetic damage all along the walls, little scratch marks as a warning that something was definitely there during the 'night'. Once Grud returned his tower to its miniature form the creatures made their presence known! Bursting from the icy river nearby to attack the party. Once Grud finished dealing with the spike covered creatures the party set out once again to follow the river above them. Eventually snow gave way to poisonous fog, and with limited equipment to keep them safe they were forced to improvise. Nihilus and Grud swapped bodies. Zabur, Runa, and Nihilus's body were doposited in a portable hole with a bottle of air to share between them, while Nihilus flew along in a flying cauldron. About an hour into their journey a creature from somewhere in the fog fired gouts of acid up at Nihilus! Metling some of Grud's skin despite his defences, forcing Nihilus to retreat into the hole for a time. With a clever use of teleport the group managed to escape from the mysterious creature mostly unscathed. Arrive at the gates of the great capital of hell a short time later. Determined to find a devil named Eklektos that they'd been assured could help them the group delved into the city with a purpose, eventually finding the devil's shop...
